Would you do clutchless shifting on a 1989 bike??

Then I woudln't do it on a new bike, unless you plan on replacing it!

And to the people that think clutchless upshifts are fine.. Fix my f4i's second gear then!

Or tell that to my friedn with a R6 with no 2nd gear..

Re: What's Wrose???

Re: What's Wrose???

what clutch? ive raced bikes with out a clutch lever at all. guess u guys dont know what a slider clutch is?

u don't need to use the lever if you unload the tranny by ignition kill or blip the throttle!!!!

Re: What's Wrose???

Dirtbikes u upshift with clutch...downshifting without clutch the engine brake helps u stop and the dirt keeps the looseness in the rear tire...i raced for 16yrs and never had a tranny problem on MX bikes...now street is opposite downshift WITH CLUTCH but as long as u blip the throttle and are in the right RPM range upshifts without a clutch should be fine. I do it personally all the time on my race bike..(although there is definately potential for some bad things to happen if u dont do it right..and rebuilds are $$$$)

Ok so if you raced for 16 years

then you know you don't run the same race bike for more then 1 season, maybe a couple if your cheap..

And you know the PRO's switch bikes what, every single race??

Again, I ask a person who thinks its alright to not use the clutch.. Would you not use the clutch on a 1985 dirt bike?

Talking Re: What's Wrose???

not using the clutch = extended clutch life
think about it when you pull in the clutch at higher rpm's 2 shift it spreads them apart, when you release the clutch they mash back 2gether and over time this wears them out faster than if you dont use the clutch when shifting.
when clutching up wheelies i dont think its to bad on the clutches either as long as your not reving the motor way more than needed to clutch it up!!!! clutching up wheelies is a skill learned over time it should be a smooth transition not a

30,000 miles on my stock f4i clutch

and I ALWAYS use the clutch..

only thing that kills clutch, is improper technique, or bad adjustment IMO..

Not to mention, a clutch is a 2 hour job at max.. Tranny is a full rebuild, might as well get a new engine
