I know its been a topic before.. i searched but no good info

636 frame cracked by the neck, about 2" long

- anyone have their frame welded or plated with good results(any bike)?? Im sure OMR will chime in

 

just get it tig'd itll crak again and u can get it welded again, my boys 636 has both sides of the neck craked and welded.....mark both ends with a sharpie so u can monitor how much it craks each time u ride....

get if fixed asap tho...

 

never seen one last once it's been fixed unless it was just a street killer

 

Had mine welded. It started cracking again an inch away from the weld. I just rode until the crack was almost all the way around the frame. Probly not a good idea though. I hope my new frame last. I'll be tightening my cage every chance I get this time, lol.

 

Where does it crack, down the sides of the intake tube? Would like to try to brace it before it cracks

 

Mine started cracking just before the neck, towards the bottom. Then the second crack started pretty much on the weld and made its way all the way around.

 

Huh, i figured that opening in the neck would crack first

 

Anyone have any pics of a cracked one would love to see it :YEAH

 

what would happen if u welde a plate over the crack? wouldn't that take the stress away from that area?

 

Here's one. The cracked started away from teh weld, then made its way to it. It also wnet all the way up the back side following the weld.

hahaha i see you tried the drill hole to stop the crack , it was a little too little and a little too late for that

drill holes around the crack and zip tie it up

 

I was getting desperate at that point.
It actually slowed the crack from going upward a little, there was nothing I could do about it attacking the neck weld.

 

I was going to say get it welded then a plate welded on top ,but that frame is toast, I would buy a freash one and get it renforced before you ride.

 

I've cracked 2 636 frames. both rewelded by my boss who has 15 year exp. welding aluminum and they both would re-crack next to the weld.

 

The aluminum is heat treated. When you weld it, you have to get it heat treated again (I dont know how you would do that) otherwise its only a fraction of the strength.
