helmet impact testing!

i remembered reading this article in motorcyclist and figured it would come in handy to anyone making a decision on what helmet to get. the article basically says that "snell" is a gimmick(here in the states) and that the european "ece22" standards are way better.

the thing i was the most surprised about is that the "pep boys raider" beat most of the major competitors.

i think mostly what your paying for with an expensive helmet is the "fit and finish" + addies, such as good ventilation, etc...

anyway, here's the data...........you decide!

the article also says that, to pass higher impact testing, snell has made the shell stronger, when what they should have been doing is making the center softer, which is what europe is doing.

hold on, let me find the article, cause some of you might want to read the whole thing. i warn you though, it's a big article and i already covered most of the main points.

Re: helmet impact testing!

I go for the more expensive fiberglass carbon or carbon fiber helmets for the light weight and the fit .I never think about the safety part first. But you always assume the more expensive ones are also safer .They dont mention the weight as being a factor seems like snapping your neck could kill you just as fast. I always put my helmet on but if i had to roll a $69 dollar special with no vents and crappy padding that would be a different story.Grate article
