929 vs 1000rr front end

well, i have a perfectly good 929 front end on my f4i minus a bent front wheel. I've been through like 4 front wheels and those bitches aren't cheap. Anyone else have problems with the wheels getting bent real easy? I came across a 1000rr front end for a good price and was curious if those front wheels may be a little more sturdy? Apparently i'm a hack and must slam my bike down way too hard

if anything the 1000rr wheel might be weaker, the way bikes go. newer usually = lighter and weaker. i had a 1000rr front on my f4i with no probs but u know me, i got the soft touch haha.

p.s. i dont know if youre running low tire pressure up front but that can be a problem for bending rims. keep your tire pressure up close to stock like 32lbs and youre less likely to bend em.

Re: 929 vs 1000rr front end

I keep my front tire at 28-30 psi always and even after mouse-trapping I still have a nice straight rim.

My 929 front bends like crazy too. It gets flat spotted all the time.

I will usually go over it once a month and bang out the flat spot with a hammer and block of wood.

Sounds like your doing something wrong if your bending rims like crazy! Or you have REALLLLY bad luck

i've never bent a rim

Of course mine are stock f4i rims, but how mcuh weaker are 929 rims?

26-28k on my wheels, ONLY bike I"ve learned to wheelie on, I've taken my bike into dirt trails and got wild, hit jumps, I jump pretty much every speed bump I cross, and I've stalled my bike out at least 500 times

How far are you rolling stoppies? Just out of curiousity....Im running like 25 or 26 lbs of pressure but i guess i'll just have to increase my tire pressure after i get this rim straightened out. I have my damper tightened up pretty good but can definitely feel some crazy headshake when i get the bike close to bp.

NO WHERE!

My biggest was 60-75 foot lol.. And I haven't done one in over a year since my fork seals blew (4 fingers on the hand brake + throwing body forward, and the tire wont come off the ground a inch)

Buuut I wouldn't think stoppies would kill front rims (rear rims maybe), I'd think it would be more slamming them down, and/or hitting potholes

edit: when I first was learning, I ran 18psi in front and rear lol
somehow I never bent my rims

Now I run 22+ in the rear, and 24-26+ in the front

Re: 929 vs 1000rr front end

I run 30psi up front and I still bend 929/954 rims....I'm gonna find a way to mod 600RR, F4i, and other rims and have a spare ready.

I'm ready to roll some endoes out again now that winter is giving up!

Re: 929 vs 1000rr front end

I have a stock F4i front end.. But on my 929 after a few years of stunting it, my front rim is straight as an arrow
