Re: Hand brakes.... A must Yes? No?

what if you switch from 50s and dirt bikes and just want to rock a handbrake for safty wile your getting used to the weight and power difference? I thought it would be nice just because i looped my bike first day cluching to hard and foot rolled off my smaller brake lever on my big bike . im used to my huge squares i put on my other bikes loose shoes dont help either
feel free to rant

Clutching to hard dont mean you need a handbrake just meens you need to get a better feel for your bike before you start snapping that clutch str8 into a BP wheelie. I've been doing BP for almost two years and just starting to learn circles and havent bought a HB yet. I rode a buddies stunt bikewith a handbrake and tapped it to hard once and it through me over the bars and then the bike ran me over it sucked ***. Since then I havent wanted a HB. Will probally need one soon once I get decent at circles.

Learn that foot brake man, that's your best bet. Take it slow.

If you can use a handbrake really good on the fiddy you should get one for the big bike. Once you find Bp on the big fugger its all the same with the brakes.. once I was at bp on the foot brake I went straight to the handbrake. so If you can get it do it.

That will be BP at idle speed, then you will start tapping the brake and slippin the clutch, stalling, and clutching out of stalls and such. You can also use this method with the HB, just catch the bike right after you clutch up past BP, then little blips of the throttle. I dont get why people make such a big deal about finding BP and using the brake and all, its basic **** , just try it!

Your method is great if you are experienced, but may be tough for noobs with little bike control. They may be better off learning rolling 10-15Mph Staggard clutchups, and working the brake before dipping back for the first time.

I'm no where near the level of fully needing a HB. Only thing I want it for is Seat standers...cause I ******* love seat standers....BUT....after looping an endo last year and snapping my arm. I'm scared as **** to do seat standers now days without a HB. I'm picking one up pretty soon just to do SS haha.

thats pretty much how I started, staggered clutchups to BP , then the bar and after a long time of that method you get more comfortable riding slower wheelies. But I think, theoreticly anyone could just start out trying to clutch to idle and get used to that first. Youre right though its better to get used to faster 1st gear, 2nd gear wheelies to have a better understanding and more control w/ FB etc.

I like your method. Thats how I learned on the 100. It is a little different on the big bike at first, but you get used to it. Its no bib deal if you go over on the 100 you can easliy run behined and push the bike back forward without even using the brake. Not gonna happen on a 600

Re: Hand brakes.... A must Yes? No?

ive seen someone attempt to use their foot between their rear wheel and swingarm to slow it down...
kinda like bmx flatland style

i highly recommend NOT trying this method of rear brake :P

as for needing a HB...i had one before i learned idle...waste
just sat there for like months, but now that im working on off peg combos its my best friend

I used to clutch up sitdown foot drag circles on an old xr 80, But just trying to apply that same teqnique to a 600 IS a big difference. After a while though I was doing it on the streetbike with ease, the 636 turns so easy into a circle, it turns too easy its such a light bike and loves BP and idle.
