FINALLY... The NEW FTI HB average Joe test...
Re: FINALLY... The NEW FTI HB average Joe test...
Well, this is a cost issue product as well. Apples VS Apples as it may be
Full throttle universal master:
300.00 and you're done, and can swap it on any bike.
Hohey with a magura like his setup:
300.00 or more (master) + 249.00(hohey) + 50 (caliper) = 599.00
Only the master will transfer to a new bike.
Some people may think that half the price is worth the hassle of mounting and the potential to have somewhat of a pump. BOTH are great items. BOTH do a fantastic job. But they're completely different price points. Also the adaptability to a new motorcycle should be noted. I may say I'll never want to ride anything but an 03/04 636 but my mind was changed before. In my mind, be it the same nature of product, it's hard to not bring that up as a major point in any argument.
And great write up, doing the stunt community a favor THANKS!

great review! I still have yet to fully get a day on the new system, but hopefully this week will be different.
I've experienced some of the same things & some I haven't.
overall a fair & well thought out review, & apex makes a valid point.
clutchitup!!

good review. i was completely unaware that they even made this system!
i like bill and he makes some good stuff out there. i never liked his first setup to begin with...tony ran it on his bike and i tested it. seemed like it just never wanted to work right no matter what we adjusted on it. I've never had a problem with any handbrake i've setup but that one. that doesn't mean it was a bad product, just not for me i guess.
This new hb setup actually cracks me up a little. This is like a retro handbrake. Back when they were coming out i remember alex flores and darius having cable handbrakes that attached to the rearset and worked like that. Then shortly after everyone figured out to get it to work right you need a second master....now we are going back to the cable method? interesting is all i have to say.
and KJ, if you used a completely different caliper in the back and ran this to it, you would be able to use both hb and footbrake at hte same time. the only way to run both at the same time is to have 2 completely independant systems going on. if they are hooked together in any way then there is no way for them to work at the same time without pressurizing the other master cylinder and allowing it to be useless.

Next generation hand brake is done!
So what is it? This hand brake is:
Variable Ratio
One model fits all sport bikes
No modification to the rear master cylinder is nescessary
No reservoir on the bar! (the stock res. on the rear master supplies the entire system)
Single caliper, no additional rear caliper is needed
Full use of the foot brake is retained
The hand brake can be used while still applying pressure to the foot brake
the handbrake lever and the clutch lever can be mounted extremely close together
every pivot point is on bearings
Controllable Herculean power at your fingertip!

So I think I mis-understood what it was going to be....
No big deal... as I said, I'm happy to spend my dollars in the stunt community... even if I don't like it in the end.
For me it looks like I'm going to be running dual caliper for long time.... it's just plain easier... less parts to mess w/ and go wrong
