clutch vs. power wheelies
clutch vs. power wheelies
i'm new to the stunt world, and vaguely understand the mechanics the clutch, so forgive me if this is obvious. it seems clutching it up would be hard on the clutch and trans gear ( whichever your in ) with the sudden surge of power, as well as stretch the chain out. power wheelie's only stress the chain, and that would be minimal. do you go through clutches and/ or snap chains often, or ever, on your stunt bikes?
Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
read my posts that i put up.. my thread.. my first wheelies.. they tell me powering the wheelie is dangerous.. because when you do that the bike is at more of a high rpm.;. and its easier to flip it if you dont know break control. like they told me.. get in 1st gear and clutch it.. dont rev it as much as you can.. go lil by lil.. get a feel of the front end coming up.
here.. i read this you should 2

Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
i can get it up both ways, and i agree that clutching is easier to control, but i was refering to the mechanics of the bike. can you blow out the clutch or snap the chain by clutching? is the damage any worse than powering it up? ps, i read your thread, and that's where my question came from. i just didn't want to hi jack it from you.
Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
oh.. well it may wear your clutch a lil bit and stretch your chain a lil bit.. if you wanna stunt.. you are going to break and replace ****.. like everyone told me. sucks but **** happens... if you powerr it up and crash. hmm who cares about the clutch what about the rest of the bike when its recked. lol

Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
cool. thanks for the responses. i'm looking for a stunt bike to thrash, and won't be so worried about this with it, but until then, i'm playing on my r1 i run through the canyons and didn't want to break anything. yes, i could dump it anytime the front comes up, but i'm not doing high chairs or 12 o' clocks, just poppin' it up. and i'd think draggin knee around a mountain is a higher risk.

I would invest in a cage. Even though you don't think you need it. It will pay for itself in one use... Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
i've been looking at cages, red. but they're kind of expensive for the time spent playing, and i'd have to take it off everytime i go to the canyons. plus i'm looking for another bike and don't want to buy two. haven't ruled it out yet, though.
Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
I know some guys that run their stunt bikes on track days and they have cages on them. I'm sure some people on here would know way more about the clearance on them than I do. I'm just sayin with my experiences I would cage everything. I have had drunk buddies in my garage do hundreds of dollars worth of damage on bikes just from being wasted.

actually that works in cars when ur clutch goes... i want the original pic from you avatar it looks amateur... amateurs are way hotter because they may be your neighbors.... WHO KNOWS!?!? Which way the wind blows, once in a while i pick my nose, wash down the bike with a garden hose, it feels good banging hoes, from the back when they grab their toes.
Re: clutch vs. power wheelies
power wheelies are worst for your transmission than clutching is by far. when you pop off the throttle and then slam it back on its jolting the **** out of your tranny, its seperating the clutch plates anyway. thats how u can do a clutchless upshift, the sudden drop in power will seperate the clutch plates just enough to shift gears, or just slamming back on the power will cause a wheelie(depending on the gear/speed bla bla). clutching provides smooth engagement instead of the on/off slamming of a throttle pop.
and with cages, it depends on the cage. Sick innovations u can bring right to the race track, i actually cut my pegs down about 1/8 inch so they dont touch when i drop my bike. meaning your pegs will touch before the cage will. i cant really speak for any other cages cuz i havent used them enough.
