deadblow big *** rubber mallet, then finish it off with a small ball peen hammer to fine tune the dent. stay away from having to use bondo and such, get some truck bedliner spray, 8 bucks a can and use that to fill it in ( use light coats and let set overnight, 2 or 3 coats and in couple days your set ). sure it can't be much different from my 03 636 tank and it came out real nice. i'm doing my buddies 06 636 tank in the next week or so

Re: Best Tools For The Job??

i just put about 5 mins into this, its about good for me, i usually stick with a milder dent and put in some stomp grip and works perfect for my style. if u want it further than that then just keep hammering it down and back further. i put tshirt over where im about to hit it so it doesnt mark up the paint although you cant really avoid the cracking of the paint where the lip bends.

Re: Best Tools For The Job??

Im surprised nobody said this, but I think a ball-pen hammer works alot better than a mallet cause you can make much more precise hits, but you dont have to hit it softer and alot more times.

i use a big mallet to start with to get the dent roughly how i want it and then use a small ball peen hammer to smooth out the waves and unevenness.

I've got an extra 05-06 tank already dented.

Re: Best Tools For The Job??

all you need is a dead blow hammer... start at the rearward base of the gas cap, work back and forth and you can adjust how far forward/rearward the dent is also... take your time, smal hits on the edges of the dent...

once you have the dent where and how deep you want it, bondo and sand, then paint...

mint, perfectly placed dent if you take your time...

What about fiberglass...bondo cracks and flakes easy when it takes a hard hit..

Re: Best Tools For The Job??

umm my turn signal box just barely skims the edge of my front fairing but not bad. im about to trim the upper down about 2 inches or so to make pull throughs easier cuz my foot gets stuck on the windscreen so after that they wont touch at all.

Re: Best Tools For The Job??

everytime ive dented a tank i use 2 rubber deadblows (bought both of mine from walmart for under 5$). Set one upright, and then nail the back of it with the other hammer. Seems to produce a better effect than using just one and hitting the tank directly. Then if u need to shape it better, turn the bottom deadblow on its side, and hit it again, for a wide compression area. Seems to work good for me.

If i flipped my clip ons it would sit higher and my clutch would smash into my upper.
