Methods and Pictures of Dented 600rr Tanks
This is not another post a picture of your tank dent thread but a thread discussing the methods of denting and melting the 600rr tanks. The reason that I am asking is because I plan on switching to the 07-08 600rr in the near future. I have seen dents like Teaches which are very shallow but that suits his riding style but I have not seen any deeper style dents. I was wondering if anyone has sucessfully dented/melted/molded their 600rr tanks to the point you can dent a standard metal tank.
Thanks for your info,
Aaron

here is the one we did on my cousin's old 600rr and you really cant go more than this... maybe an inch more at the max... the best way to do it is dent the actual metal tank where you want it then use a heat gun to heat the UNDERSIDE of the plastic part.... try to spread the heat evenly yet fading in heat as you go outward if u get what im sayin.... then wrap a 2x4 piece of wood w/ a towel or something and work the plastic down starting at the cap and working your way outward.... you can also just put on welding gloves(heat resistant) but it may not come out as smooth. theres really not far you can go w/ a 600rr tank imo! good luck though bro!!!

my freind dented the metal tank, cut out the plastic and fiber-glassed the back to get a better lip. looks shitty but if you know what your doing it should come out good.

i think the best thing to do would be to give the tank to a metal sheet worker and let them cut and weld it to how you want it, yeah it might cost more than if you were to take a hammer to it yourself but atleast it would get done then all you need to do is slowly melt the plastic with a heat gun....

ok, I know you didnt want a "post ur pics thread" but heres as much as I could dent a top dent on my RR when I had it. If you went with an o-town dent I think you could go alot deeper!
tossed in an extra pic or two for good measure!
btw.....I dented the metal tank until it wouldnt go any deeper, then slowly melted the top down to its level. I think if I still had my RR I would prolly try a deeper o-town style dent...the space from the bars to the back of the lip on my tank was really compact, especially compared to my F4i now!

steal the design and make ur own....I used a hacksaw frame a course thread bolt, and a 3/4" drill bit tip.....lil hard to get it started, but they're locked in for secure travel with that 3/4" bit! LoL

i have an 07rr. i just took the cover off and used a heat gun. you have to apply a **** load of pressure, and it takes awhile but i think it turned out ok!

saw in a thread a while back that dude used a weight from a weight bench to help mold his plastic part of his tank, he also said heat it from the inside.
*j-brown(gixxer bro) had one of his tanks cut, then he flipped it and welded it back.how you angle and cut it depends on the type of dent you get.!!!!!!(had to cut the gas flap part out and weld it also.)<-might help you. IDK
pm me if you have any ?'s

Re: Methods and Pictures of Dented 600rr Tanks
your welcome
good post i thought.
good post i thought.
Couple days ago I was denting my tank in 600rr. I was searching a info about it every where. So now I thought that I can help sb to do it right.
First, you must dent your metal tank. Don't hit the opening because it will break (like mine)! The best way is to hit around opening.
When you dent it, you must dent a plastic cover. To do it, you must use a heater (the best is 3kW or more). I had 2 heaters (both 1,5kW). You must heat it from inside (thanks to that the paint from the cover wouldn't fall of).
When the cover is hot you must fast get it on bike and pull hard down on the tank. USE GLOVES - it's very hot!!! Do it quickly, because it's getting cold very fast.
When you do it, than you can heat it on some smart area and do the form as you want.
When I will finish my tank, I will show some pics.
Have fun with that :YEAH
