more like steel stock its just **** metal welded on to a flat that scrapes away even to that the bike pics its own scraping point aka your bar will never just drag flat once you flatten it you'll be able to park the bike on the bar easy. tungsen sounds cool dont know much about it. you'd need a fat chunk and that would prob cost $$$$

Re: Tungsten Scrape Plates??

I never would have thought to try Tungston for that purpose but here is some general info on pure tungston! I have used many tungston carbide tool in machining and it is very brittle!

BECAUSE, TUNGSTON, IS VERY HARD AND HEAT RESISTANT,THE MAJOR USE, OF TUNGSTON, IS IN LIGHT FILAMENTS,

AND HIGH SPEED, CUTTING TOOLS.
TUNGSTON IS NOT USED, AS AN ALLOY COMPONENT, IN SHEET STEEL OR LIGHT STEEL STRUCTURAL SECTIONS BECAUSE, IT DOES NOT, WELD AT ALL.

TUNGSTON IS NOT ABLE, TO BE PUNCH PRESSED, OR DRILLED, WITH NORMAL, HIGH SPEED, DRILL POINTS.

TUNGSTON, CANNOT BE CUT WITHOUT, SPECIAL METAL CUTTING SAWS OR TORCHES TUNGSTON, DOES NOT BEND IN A SHEET METAL PRESS, WITHOUT CRACKING

diamond bits will go through anything as well as carbide...but the tungston is not really what i was referring to....i think that the tungston is useless for us! but Yes the tungston tools are cash!!!! fo sho

Re: Tungsten Scrape Plates??

you can drill and tap ti easily, just take your time and keep it cool with lots of cutting oil and a slow drill speed.

TI gets harder every time it is heated.... EVERY TIME!

Re: Tungsten Scrape Plates??

Titanium is the ideal material for a scrape plate if your looking for something that will through more and brighter sparks and last longer.....

Magnesium and Tungsten are not ideal and I wouldnt use either of them...Like mentioned Tungsten is brittle, and nobody mentioned but Mag is very sensitve to the elements and needs to be painted....If any bare Mag is exposed it will corrode very fast, and once it start to corrde it also becomes very brittle....

Bottom line Ti is what you want....
