Re: 100 octane fuel

Waste of money and actually performs worse in your engine. The higher octane will reduce the tendancy for your engine to knock but in return burns slower and cooler. You will get more power by running the lowest octane that your motor is designed to handle. Many sportbikes are rated for 87octane and you are only wasting money by using a higher grade.

ive honestly felt a difference running 93 in my f4i compared to 87. With 93 the bike had more pep

if you run 100, you will want to go a number lower with your plugs (hotter) because as previously stated it burns cooler (which if your not running it all the time it doesnt make sense), but no, it will not harm anything. if you really want to clean the **** out of your bike run some VP U4 (ultimate 4) its oxygenated 93. the detergents in it will help to clean your valves, combustion chamber, etc.

yeah, making whoolies is illegal too, but does that stop anyone ? serious note, i doubt you will ever be cited for running 100 octane in your lifetime.

Re: 100 octane fuel

octane is the ability for fuel to resist detonation due to compression. bikes require 92 octane because the compression ratio is really high. running 87 would cause combustion to occur prematurely and knock. unless you live in high altitudes. (as low as 85 octane can be found in places like denver). you should put in your vehicle whatever fuel its designed for. and anything higher than that is a complete waste of money. it doesnt burn cleaner or combust any better whatsoever. the performance you gain from running higher octane is purely imaginational. the reason they sell 100+ octane near race tracks and whatnot is because such vehicles would run like poop without it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/octane

Re: 100 octane fuel

in order for a higher octane fuel to benefit...you gotta have more compresion...if you want to get techincal about it...you should look at oxygen ratings on the fuel...thats more important than the normal octane rating

Re: 100 octane fuel

I was told to run it once in a while to clean out the injectors/throttle bodies. Is it even worth it or should I just buy actual injector cleaner?

edit: just read above post.

thanks fellas

Re: 100 octane fuel

the gas will do next to nothing to clean your fuel system, i would suggest lucas fuel injector cleaner (i had really good experiences with it) since thats what it is produced for or running a little marvel mystery oil in your gas.

well put. the brand of gas will affect cleanliness in your system. chevron's "techron" is number one as far as detergents go, shell's v-power and 76's "pro-power" both are both tied for a close second. just a little fyi.
