100 octane fuel
Re: 100 octane fuel
it could be that our gas is junk and weak as hell out here. our 91,92,93 whatever the hell it is in different areas is probably more like 87 and the 87 is like 81. the 100 octane unleaded 76 that you can get at the pump is real peppy though
Re: 100 octane fuel
where the **** do they sell that? they dont have it anywhere near vallejo besides sears point. btw im pretty sure cali is the only place that has 91 as our top octane, everywhere else has 93.

Re: 100 octane fuel
sources? or is this from ur experience?
Re: 100 octane fuel
and as far as i know, for you guys running 87 in the f4i's.....honda recommends 90 R+M/2 octane for their bikes.
and the leaded thing on octane. leaded fuel has nothing to do with octane. those are 2 independent things in fuels. generally leaded octane will be higher for the mere reason that the only leaded fuels made anymore are for racing purposes so they make the fuel with a higher octane for high compression race motors. pointless to make a 93 octane leaded fuel when race cars can't run it.
and you CAN run leaded fuels in fuel injectors. quite a few drag racers use them here at the track. C12 is one of the most popular fuels at the track and it's a leaded fuel.
about AV gas.....AV gas is a different makeup than our fuel. Whoever has a boss running it in their bike will be replacing an engine soon. Depending on which gas it is: 100LL, 100, Jet A it won't run right. Jet A definately won't run in our engines. Jet A is similar to diesel. It has about half the octane of a gasoline fuel. We actually use Jet A in our diesel hummers. 100LL and 100 which are both commonly used for single engine prop planes have led in them and are 100 octane fuels. They might run for a while in a bike, but not without damage.
and yes, specific gravity makes a huge difference. We adjust air/fuel mixtures on all of our race bikes based on just the specific gravity of the fuel. It can make a huge difference (up to 3 jet sizes on a carbed bike).
Re: 100 octane fuel
upper midwest all you will see is 91....I know South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wyoming usually have 91 as highest octane
Re: 100 octane fuel
76 sells it right at the pump here in Sac, granted it's only at 1 location that I know of. Watt ave at Marconi is our spot. they should have it down in the bay somewhere! if not y'all need to complain to get it!!!
Re: 100 octane fuel
sources
i said usually never said anything about lead affecting octane and jet A very similar to kerosene.

your bike was probably detonating on the 87 then....that would be the lack of power.

Re: 100 octane fuel
junior , dont waste your money on any '' race gas'' to clean out your bike . if your that concerned give me a call and ill come up and give u a hand with it . pull the t/b's off and u can look in with a flash light to see if there is alot of carbon built up . the bikes usualy run pretty clean so not much to worry about.
Re: 100 octane fuel
an old school trick with carbed engines is to run water or tranny fluid through the carbs, i personally have never seen anything work better for cleaning the top end of a motor.

Re: 100 octane fuel
+1 a table spoon or so of water , or a couple squirts from a spray bottle go a long way . my dad told me about that when i was drag racing , and i still do it on my bikes and cars.
Re: 100 octane fuel
I know alcohol cleans out your engine as well as your gas tank but as it cleans it shoves all that crap down into your fuel filter and also down into your engine and could cause engine damage. I haven't done it, thats just what Ive heard.
Re: 100 octane fuel

, dont ever use that ****.
. i noticed it in every bike that i have owned.
