Re: Do you wear gear?
all this talk about gear....
you guys should really go see all the free gear I give away: www.rockthegear.org
Kelm: you say you don't like carrying stuff around... what if some jackass cager hits you and you have to carry around a colostomy bag for the rest of your life? its not just about how YOU are riding on the streets, even if you aren't even messing around.
Roadrash sucks so bad, and enough of it can and will kill you. But internal injuries and head injuries are just as common and the main reasons for DEATH... even at 5mph. Don't be another statistic.
As far as the lots go, your bikes can fall on you and stab you at any given moment. I've seen someone lose a foot after a coaster gone bad. Boots and armor are just as important because you are never guaranteed not to crash, and sometimes the unthinkable happens. Heck, look at graham, his cage nearly took his whole hand and arm off.... wear as much as you can!

Re: Do you wear gear?
About 6-7 years ago, I was doing a standup going over 65 the bike shutoff mid wheelie. I got pulled over the bars wearing a t-shirt and shorts, luckily I had on my helmet and gloves. But the road rash was unreal! you can still see where all the skin was missing and ground off, chunks of bone from the elbow etc..
Then about 5-6 years ago I was doing a rear skitch while being filmed by Drew stone for the original USBW, my bike got the wobbles I threw it down and I landed on it, cracked a few ribs worst pain! I was only wearing an MX jersey, should have had some armor on.
The next major injury after that was about 4 years ago, Stunting in the rain at a small show in my town, I was doing a sitdown 12 riding on the bar, my bike was rocking from the left and right. I had launched up uneven from the wet pavement, I tried to ride it out but the bike never straightened out, It just fell to the right. I fell with the heavy *** zx9, my right foot landed under the 905 cage! my foot broke and swelled immediately.... maybe if I had some type of boot on instead of the standard DC's I may have gotten less injured..? I am going to start wearing a back protector once I restart my season in a few weeks... So yeah gear is vital, but I know I'l still be out in the lot with just a t-shirt jeans and DC's..But I always wear my helmet and gloves.

If I wreck it's gonna hurt, you think I don't realize this?
I've experinced road rash covering both my arms up and my tendons broken in every single hand but I am not gonna wear a jacket... unless it's cold.

Re: Do you wear gear?
Wow. i wonder if that is why my car is WAY faster. Do yut ughhh!!!!! stickers increase horsepower like spoilers on rice-burners? Hmm. Something to ponder. What I ride in depends on what I am doing. If I am riding to work, I am in uniform, boots, and a reflective vest
! I hate riding to work. If I am just cruising the neighborhood or over to a friends house to watch the game, shorts and a T-shirt (and gloves and a helmet). If I am going to the lot, it's jeans or shorts with knee/shin protectors. a t-shirt, elbow pads, my back protector, helmet and gloves.... for about the first 15 minutes.... then slowly, I'll get fed up at the elbow pads and toss them, then the shin guards. Then I'll get hot while taking a break and smoking so I'll take off the back protector. Then of course, I get
when I have to put them all back on to ride home. Re: Do you wear gear?
I didn't realize you could BREAK TENDONS Kelm... thanks for that lesson.
And my point is that it might not just hurt, it might be worse than you could ever imagine. Pain might be the least of your worries if you have internal injuries, brain damage, massive blood loss, infection, or a severed limb or spinal cord. Don't be THAT squid!

Re: Do you wear gear?
if you had one? Bro, you dont have a jacket? You can have my red Joe Rocket. I have worn it maybe 8 times. No rash. You pay shipping and its yours
Re: Do you wear gear?
When you go out for street rides it seems to me that stunters for some reason don't wear any gear but the usual helmet and gloves so I'm curious what ya'll wear? I hate going up to a bike night cause everyone talks **** (the bling bling people) about how I'm gonna die cause I'm wearing a t-shirt rocking a stand up and what not...

Maybe I'm getting old (nearly 28, been riding since I was 18), but on street rides I wear helmet, jacket, gloves, jeans, and riding boots pretty much everywhere.
It's not really a hassle to me. A few of my close riding buddies that are around my age have already had skin grafts, bone grafts, titanium screws, titanium plates, etc. When I was a newb I broke my leg and got some good rash around the area where it broke. Had I been wearing riding boots I wouldn't have had the break or the rash. I gear up these days.
Besides gear is cheaper than what you have to pay if you have 80/20 medical insurance with a high *** deductible.
