I just got this one last thurs from hai and it is def worth the money! I replaced an 05 R1 master with it and what a difference. The R1 was better than most, but this one is the shizz.

The reason the 16X18 is better is because it is designed for a single caliper set up. (instead of using a master designed to operate 2 calipers for your 1 caliper rear hand brake system)

So I'm about to order this from Hai. Last call... any more feedback on this master, and if this is the best price?

Dealer price is around ~$170 I believe. I'd make friends with someone who works in the parts department.

Re: Is This An OK Handbrake ???

Meh. Yeah, I need better friends lol.

Just ordered the Brembo 16 x 18, the reservoir, and a 54" Goodridge line.

Total with shipping was 277.60

Still need tail plastics, a rear brake light, rear brake lever, and decide on which dirt bike bar to run... and I'm ready to rebuild my bike.

Woot!

Almost done!

Arg. Where were you 2 days ago? lol. Ooh well. Since it's the best, I suppose if you had to spend 300 bucks on it, it would probably still be worth the money.

Waiting for my stuff to come in so I can take my clutch / brake / blinker setup to the local shop and choose a dirt bike bar.

Last stuff to buy is dirt bike bars, bar ends, rear foot brake lever, and maybe rear axle spool sliders... then time to prime, bondo, paint, and rebuild! Can't wait!!!

I'm curious why you would ask about the Nissin master cylinder now when you posted a few months ago that you already had one

Re: Is This An OK Handbrake ???

i didnt read all the posts in this thread so im sorry if this has already been said.
The master you are showing is good pressure wise. but to set is up on bottom is a total pain in the ***. the piece that the banjo bolt screws into gets all in the way. IF you dont want to put your handbrake and clutch close together then this is the setup for you. I personally hated this master just for that reason. I cant tell you how many different ways i tried to make that thing work. i run full fairing by the way, with ram air ducts, gages & full throttle 0° clip-ons. street fighterd bikes may have had different results. I bought a brembo and will never run another master. Ill post pics of the 2 different set ups to show you what im talking about. you dont have to get a brembo, but you do want one that the banjo bolts into the part of the brake that comes directly off the bar. Its hard to explain so wait for the pics.

Good question... and well remembered.

I did infact run the nissin lever a few months ago. I loved the "idea" of a hand brake, but found my lever to be squishy.

I went thru the forums, and read up about handbrakes. I also bled my line 3 different times. I tried the pump, zip tying it, etc... Only thing I didn't do was take it completely off, and get the master above the reservoir when bleeding.

Well, long story short...

Shot at 2007-10-08
I was in the local short lot practicing... and my HB failed. Not sure if it was an air bubble, or if the line had been damaged, but it went "normal.. normal... gone". So ultimately learning how to use a hand brake has been very painful, embarrassing, and costly.

That's why I was asking about this lever again. Seeing if anyone has had good luck with it and if I should salvage mine, or buy it again.

All in all I wish it grabbed more solid... but I do know that using aftermark brake pads added to the brake fade feel. It was my first HB, so I have nothing to compare it to. Can't say it was the HB's fault... rider error?

So was just getting a feel for other peoples successes. My nissin lever looks to be in good shape, but after that crash, I'm a bit leary of putting it back on my bike.

On a side note, and in all seriousness, all I seem to think about is being able to stunt again. And I'm kinda mad that I got hurt so early in my learning curve. After posting here, and "thinking outloud" I decided that for peace of mind, I'd just buy the brembo and sell my nissin.

And with winter setting in, I have pleanty of time to tweak my bike from an original sweet looking, to crashed, to a streetfighter / stunt bike.

And I guess to sum it all up... like I said "thinking outloud", people seemed to have ok experiences with the nissin, but nobody has managed to give the brembo a bit of doubt. I can clutch to that.

Re: Is This An OK Handbrake ???

Meh. Should have seen it coming... this is from that other thread...

*******
Ooh, and how the F*** do I get rid of all the air bubbles? I can hear em in the reservoir when I pump the HB.
