Make sure you get a lawyer that specializes in this sort of thing. You don't want a DUI lawyer to represent you.. ya know?

i cant afford a lawyer tho so im basically screwed. i got a public pretender(alot of help ) i just have to deal with it now. cant blame anyone else but myself

 

good for you taking up responsibility .. but honestly, if you are that hard up for cash, i would sell the bike to keep a felony off your record .. you are 21 years old??? you will end up regretting sucking up and taking a felony...
think about it ..

bikes are replaceable... felony's are not reversable

most likely if this is your first driving offense they'll drop it down, but if your driving record sucks then you need to take the money that you get from your bike and call cochrane, cause you can allways set up a payment plan with your friends and it allways helps when you tell them how stupid you are and all that ****, basically just kiss their *** and tell them what they want to hear good luck

Hey man no worries. I went through a lil thing recently and dealt with courts and lawyers...errrr not fun. But on the brightside, good thing you got a public defender. The private lawyers are going to take lots of money. I had one that charged me 3500 and I got a police report out of him. I fired him then decided to represent myself. Brought in exhibits, googled earthed stuff..all to show them that it did not occur the way the police report stated, which is all they have to go by, and in my case was elaborated extensively to a point that a reduction was not not granted...(finally I won a reduction..)...Anyway my point is that the public defenders, in a way, are very favorable.. My brother in law is a Disctrict Attorney about to be granted Judgeship in his county....He also says this about public defenders. they know the system because they represent so many cases a year, they know the judge and/or most of the district attorneys....so Hopefully they can help you out with getting some agreement in terms of reducing the case by as much as possible. I had to fight like a dog and it was not even close to what you are going to go through. Just dress sharply, yes sir no sir, and make sure they know that you know what you did was wrong...hopefully they will see you are a good person that just made a mistake....I dont know...I am just throwin ideas out.....but good luck and hope it goes ok.

yah, i just gotta suck it up and be a man about it. I made the mistake so i gotta make it right now. Ill do what i can to make sure they know im not a "criminal" and take what they give me. thanks for the advice man

 

Is this your first case?

Your case doesn't sound very circumstantial and with that said, a lawyer isn't going to be able to offer you much more than a PD can, it's not worth the $5k retainer (I've been in your shoes exactly man).

 

yah. my first FELONY case. i was convicted of a misdemeanor a couple years ago and i did 18 mos. Probation.

the felony is because you ran from them on the bike... the misdemeanor is cuz you ran on foot

not going to be a felon unless u are convicted of a felony.....depending on ur record u might get the misdemeanor dropped and the felony dropped to a misdemeanor....ur rap sheet is not too long.....good luck

spend $ on the best possible lawyer u can afford..u dont want a felony on ur record for the next 10 years!!!
public defenders wont fight as hard for u

 

Good going Be a man and learn to take responsibility for your actions next time. If you're driving on suspeneded don't you think you should of been driving normal? If they hit you for Felony Evading you must of pulled some *** clown move for that one... usually endangered someone.

Even with a lawyer, prepare to be bent over and spanked with some pretty heafty fines/jail time or community service.

 

Take out a loan and get a real lawyer, rob, steal, cheat, lie.... DO NOT use the PD... Its gonna suck for a few years paying back all the cash you need but the Felony is much worse...
