sv650 died
sv650 died
so we were at a spot tonight. i jumped on my buddies sv650, and did 2 short wheelies....maybe 50-75 feet.
1st wheelie, after maybe 50 feet, it came down, followed by the back tire lockin up and makin the weirdest ****** noise (no i wasn't braking, it just locked up by itself)
i did another wheelies comin back, exact same thing happened. so i stopped.
15 minutes later we left the spot, he felt some power loss and the bike started knocking.
30 more minutes of cruisin around, and his bike just died.
wouldn't turn back on, didn't even crank.
what could it be?

Re: sv650 died
When the SV650 is wheelied, it starves the front cylinder of oil. Also gives a huge chance of spinning a crank bearing. Definitly not a bike to wheelie, but it seems a little too short of an amount of time on the back wheel to royally **** things up.
Re: sv650 died
Wow, your buddy must really like you...
Anyways, yeah, I am currently selling my sv650s in minty shape with only 2k miles on it, because I read on a lot of sv forums that the front cylinder starves completely during wheelies for oil, and after 2 good long passes, honestly your probably burnt the motor up. Check out svrider.com and search the forum page and you will see what I am talking about. I can't stop doing wheelies and so I just bought myself the mintest 1999 honda f4 you have ever seen with 2200 miles on it, and I plan on running the hell out of it. Long story short the sv is a killer bike on the road or track, but if you like to wheelie, they suck. Shoulda kept the wheelies on your f4i. If it is under warranty I would take it back to the dealer and tell them you never raise the front wheel. Otherwise, you will see how much your buddy likes you I guess. Let him know I have an 03 sv650s for sale with tons of extras...

Re: sv650 died
EEK....nowhere did dirty toes ever say this was the first time the bike was wheelied....So what's to say it was his fault ?
maybe the bike has been wheelied alot ...and it finally caught up with it
(def. sounds like a spun bearing)
the best thing is to keep warning other sv650 owners

, it is notorious for sv's to do this, they are a good bike till you wheelie it, how many miles are on it I wonder? Re: sv650 died
ohh ya definitly not the first time, hes bin poppin wheelies on it for months....and he was wheeling his bike tonight before i jumped on it and did my 2 runs.
but damn, that sucks if its motor, is it fixable or does the whole thing have to be replaced....anyone have rough pricing?
p.s. i'm pretty sure that its a 2005 sv so it should still be under wanrratly...ill let him know.

Re: sv650 died
...hes been wanting an f4i for awhile now, just didn't have the dough...and still doesn't
Re: sv650 died
new crank+gaskets:
$1,000...just parts, doesn't include labor
new engine installation
$550
if the valves are bent, replacing the top part of the motor:
$900
OMFG! can anything else be causing the bike not to turn over?
p.s. one of the mechanincs also said that
1. he couldve been low on oil
and
2. his clutch could've been almost done(which it was) and the fibers could've been stopping the oil from going through.
but if the motor IS blown, why didn't it stop right away? ...instead of 45 minutes later@!
Re: sv650 died
Get the bike checked out if you dont know whats wrong. By the sounds of it you dont know if its the crank yet. Could be any # of things. Get a pro to look at it b4 assuming the worst (although it is already a Suzuki).
Re: sv650 died
haha **** was prolly low on oil and then your rev limiter chasers blew it up haha..
when people say spun rod bearing theres this little metal sleeve between the crank and the piston, when the bearing over heats (caused by oil starvation) it slightly melts and starts to squeeze out between the crank, counter balance weight and the rod etc... now that its moved out its getting alot more friction. with more friction comes more heat and soon enough the heat causes the bearing to melt more n more then motor siezes...

Re: sv650 died
sv's are garbage for wheelies and stunting in general cause of the oil pick-up and the engine design it causes a very bad lack of oil issue. but normal wheelies at low rpms ussually are ok on motors unless its for long periods of time. now high revving motors will spin off the oil from the bearings alot faster and this is where u start seeing problems. but long story short its an sv so yea u spun the bearings and u need a new motor off ebay and just tag harness hookups with tape and number it when u swap motors its fairly straight foward. just drain, unplug, unbolt repeat in reverse
Re: sv650 died
figure out what color bearings you need for crank and rods, if you spun a rod bearing replace the rod, send the crank to falicon ($250-300)they will fix the crank buy gaskets and suzuki bond gasket sealer for your cases. find a MOTORCYLE machanic that will do it on the side for a couple hundred bucks. we do it for peeps all the time only takes a few hours if you know whats your doing
