parking lot and high temperature
Re: parking lot and high temperature
leave it alone, that's how a fan is suppose to work..kick on when the temp is high and kick off when the temp lowers. you keep it on all the time and it'll drain the battery. bike's done start charging until about 3000-5000 rpms, depending the bike.

Re: parking lot and high temperature
I fitted another fan to the rad so i have 2 working togeather, then wired a switch in so i can turn them on and off when i please, also i wired it in before the the brain turns it on and off, so even if i dont turn them on, after the max temp it turns its self on as normal.

Re: parking lot and high temperature
yeah but its still warmer than ambiant air. the cooler the air, the better. but ur right, it wouldnt warm up the coolant. it just wouldnt be as efficient at cooling the coolant as cooler air.

Re: parking lot and high temperature
how much newer? i have an 02 f4i with the fan on all the time and i have a hard time keeping the battery charged. i thought it was just an old battery but if this applies to my bike, then i may need to rewire the fan on my bike.
Re: parking lot and high temperature
charger-regler
or shitass wired
it should start charging when you start engine Re: parking lot and high temperature
so on my bike i took the two wires off the tempeture sending unit and put a switch in between them so i hit the switch and the fan comes on....
if i were to hook the two wires back up to the sending unit but leave the switch also hooked up would that let my fan come on if i forgot to throw the switch ?
sounds good if i understand this correctly

does my idea seem fucked up?
and another Q
what does the battery voltage run at?
im getting a fucked up reading of 19v
Re: parking lot and high temperature
you are going to do damage if you keep running that high of voltage
and i think one fan is enough and i live in south florida and usually have my idle up all day long and my bike stays around 200 and 200 is a good temp for the bike to stay at all things considered [fi, engine wear ,power]
Re: parking lot and high temperature
19v is way to high you probably need a rectifier / regulator

and thought so
thank u sir
what would cause it to run that high?
Re: parking lot and high temperature
if you are getting a high voltage at the battery then your rectifier is bad.
and even new ones do'nt charge at idle. if they did then we wouldn't do charging system tests at 3000 or 5000, depending if it's honda or suzuki. they are in the red at idle and don't produce enough to break even until about 3000....suzuki's aren't producing positive charge until 5k. pull the stator wires off and hook them to a voltmeter and put it on ac. you'll see
Re: parking lot and high temperature
yea i knew it was high i just wasn't sure how high ...i have heard of people getting 120v ac out of a modified car car alternator

Re: parking lot and high temperature
well, the part that has me confused is that sometimes i'll let the bike sit for a day or two and it'll start right up. and other times, i'll practice for a while, turn the bike off for 3 minutes, and when i try to turn the bike back on, the battery will be dying and i'll have to push start it. sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. i think it may be what paky said, shitty wiring. it was already a stuntbike when i bought it so it has had a lot of work done to it.

that is very old battery
when the bike is hot you need more power from battery than when is cold
Re: parking lot and high temperature
okay. thanks for the info, OMR and Paky. i was thinking of replacing it but i didnt want to do it before i felt more confident that it was the problem. i've never heard of a battery recharging itself though, nor would i know why it needs more power when the engine is hot. regardless, i'm gonna change the **** and try it out.
