Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

Well I was considering picking up a dual caliper set up for when I finally get around to putting a hand brake. But then someone told me that Mana used to run a dual caliper but switched it out for a Full Throttle brake master instead. Anyone know why he'd do this? I tried messaging him on myspace but he doesn't go on very often. Thanks.

Here's my disadvantage... I don't have a dual caliper set up!... About mana... it could be a sponsorship thing... but everyone has their own preferences... my 1 cent!

Re: Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

i was acually lookin into throwing a second one on my r6 cause im strongly considering stuntin it... is there a way to split the existing line so you can keep your foot brake as well, and run them both off the same cali? My bikes still gonna be used on the streets, thus the reason for wanting it still

I like running dual caliper b/c there is no delay. If you bleed a full throttle perfectly you won't have this problem either but for me I like having one caliper for my foot brake and one for my hand brake. I don't like splitting lines, just doesn't make sense to me to have 2 seperate braking sources on 1 line and 1 caliper.

mana as well as the HI stunters (maui guys) all run the full throttle master...but they're so good, they could use anything...samboy has a dual caliper bracket that he made...and a couple team O guys run dual calipers...and yes mana is sponsored by ft

Just get the dual caliper setup from HoHey... they are minty. Dont waste your time having to of them welded together.

Re: Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

hohey's setup is more n more tempting every day, i run the adapter to the rear master, it's cool for a lot of people, but there is a bit of delay, i caught some heat about the single master not to long ago cus i was thinking about having it bled by a guy who runs a shop n does racing himself, that way i could get a garauntee on work n not have to worry so much about air in the line cus that's a big problem doing it yourself, but there are a lot who do it themselves that don't get the air bubble problem and almost no lag, so yeah, single or dual caliper is a personal choice

Re: Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

The only reason anyone needs dual calipers if they are running a left and right side handbrake. Left (or right) handbrake would tie into the footbrake master (like everyone running a handbrake setup) and the other handbrake would solely operate the second caliper.

Re: Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

if your just going to have the 1 handbrake get the adaptor and go thru the rear master....makes no sense at all to have a second caliper for just 1 handbrake.....the only other issue may be the 'lag' between using each brake but it wont affect someone good....

Re: Dual Caliper Set up...advantages...disadvantages?

I got both.....single caliper adaptor on the 600rr and hohey bracket on the F4i. Both work and are strong, I have the exact same front master cylinder and braided lines from Bonaco on both bikes....the single v. dual is the only difference!

I prefer the HoHey bracket on my F4i...thing looks and works perfect. I had to pull the wheel off and I had no problems taking the rear wheel off with a dual caliper set-up.

I would not want a welded dual caliper bracket tho! How do you know the weld is as strong as HoHey billet bracket? Also, HoHey' bracket s CNC cut meaning its as close to perfectly straight as possible, versus a welded bracket that you think or hope is straight.

here's the low down on what I got and why I like my hohey bracket better....

600rr/single caliper.....
-if you are learning to use your handbrake and ur trying to smoothly transition from foot to hand brake you can't use both at the same time. It made my learning curve longer since I wanted to get used to using the handbrake before being in a position where I had to use it....like SS or spreader.
+plenty strong with a good master cylinder and when bled right there's little to NO lag in the braking. I have a gix radial master and braided line bled perfectly and it has ZERO lag in it.
+less parts to buy and deal with
+cheaper, bout $50 for the adaptor from moto-heaven

F4i/HoHey bracket
+can use both calipers at the same time, didn't really matter after 10 minutes nor would it for someone who is already comfy with a handbrake, once I had the feel for it I had it....basically, $200 made my learning curve on the handbrake go from weeks/months to literally 10 minutes or less! (all mental!)
+EXTREMELY STRONG brakes with my gixxer radial master and a braided line, will easily make you mouse trap, stall the motor, lock up the tire....can almost be too strong if you are too hard on the brakes! Can bring you back with a single finger from a violent loop attemt....and I've tested that! (I've only used one finger so far and its got more than enough power that way!)
-have to buy an additional rear caliper
-bracket is more expensive(but more than worth it!)

Alot of it depends on the front master you use, the right brake fluid, and how well you bleed the system out.

I like the HoHey bracket personally. Looks and functions very well and I could still ride even after I broke my right rearset and had no footbrake attached. I know the handbrake works on my 600rr when the rearset broke, but if I blew the seals out on the footbrake I would be done to the day or only practicing endoes.

Check em out! www.hoheydesigns.com Its good stuff, trust me!
