I've only circled a 41 tooth and a 43 tooth so I can't tell you whether or not a 42 tooth is possible to circle, however you remind me of someone I have seen lose 3 teeth trying to learn circles but he had 60 teeth on his sprocket so again not much help there.

i done it with stock 954 gearing, and thats a 43t sprocket. but yeah gearing is much easier!!!
