Powers Crash Cage

I put a Powers cage on my 01 F4i. I was just wondering if anyone had one and how they cut the holes to put the plastics back on. It doesn't look like you can just cut circles but instead maybe take some chunks out. Any ideas? I was thinking of just riding w/o them.

Re: Powers Crash Cage

dscamry eyeballed it and used garden pruners to cut the plastic
On my rr I put the cage on & marked it (on the frame) where it bolted up,then took cage off and marked the plastic (on the frame) with a paint pen.I used a cutting wheel to cut plastic and a file to smooth the edges .

Re: Powers Crash Cage

yeah.....you have to trim out like a half circle (alond that egde that rides up along the frame rail) No Biggie.... just use a grinder or dremel or jigsaw or hotknife or grinding stone or cutting stone on a drill.....

just take your time and and do it in small incriments atill you've cut just the right an mount off (cut ...fit ....cut ...fit ...cut ....fit ) dont just try to make the whole cut right off the bat (too easy to over cut and have mis-aligned or too big of a cutout )

and remember ....it's a stuntbike ...not a showbike ....right ?

Re: Powers Crash Cage

Use playdough when you can. Put a bunch of it on the fairing in general location to where you may be cutting and then mount the fairing where it will be. Now push down on the fairing to get a good imprint. Finally, when you take off the fairing use hands on the edges of the playdough so that it comes off with the fairing as you pull the off rather than sticking to the mount. Now you have a perfect impression. Take a small bit and drill right in the center of the mount (playdough impression). Now you have a pilot hole. Finally, take a hole bit with a pilot hole and drill FROM THE OUTSIDE IN (much cleaner). If you want it perfect, take a Dremel to the rough edges.
