making my own cage, help!!!
Re: making my own cage, help!!!
There are several things to consider when building a cage other than wall thickness and welding points. The most important thing is how the bike hits the ground.

[quote=Tiretrauma]Wrong, Tig makes a great weld on steel!!
In the TIG (tungsten inert gas) TIG welding differs from MIG (metal inert gas) quote]
I never said you cant weld steel with tig... i said u cant arc weld aluminum. i went to school for structural welding, buildings to bridges and anything in between.
btw almost anyone can tell you what the abreviations for mig and tig are.

Guess I'll have to save up money to buy one

Do you have a payment plan system for cages? Like $3.50/mo for like 60 months?
Re: making my own cage, help!!!
i am a welder and i wish that i had my own equipment or access to my work cause i would love to build my own cage. I actually wouldnt mind building cages for some side money. I think the best way to go would be with a very high grade steel, like a "tool type" steel..Plus if you have the money for stainless it wouldnt only look sick, it would be very strong. Plus the blueing from stainless tig welds would look very nice and polish the rest. Unfortunatly i cant build one cuz my work is run by a bunch of *******. So i am buying one. What would you all suggest to me for an f4i. I was lookin at mxd and Sick innovations...which is the best? new to slow **** so im gonna fall alot. Thanx kyle
Re: making my own cage, help!!!
ya i made my own and i went with a cross tube in front of the headers, motor mount bolt, and the subframe bolts. mine cost me about 80 bucks i used 1-1/4 .120 wall chromoly for all the long tubes, i made the frame slider part out of 1-3/8 .120 wall chromoly, and the through tube out of 1" .120 chromoly. and i slugged the tubes where they bolt up 1/2" in the tube. i used 3/8 bolts for the subframe 4" and just 3/8 1-1/4" length for the cross tube. and made a 2-1/2" treaded slug for the bottom tube that i spot welded and welded the end. all tig welded of course.
