Never had problems with my gixxers and no pick up. Just run a quart over and I'm good.

Re: Bike smokes after long wheelies?!?

i have a 04 600 also with about 27000 miles on it, at about 12000 or so i notice the same problem, but mine were when i was in 2nd going down the interstate at high rpm's for awhile, i was told it was oil build up in the back of my motor and i needed a tube so that the oil could stay flowing like it should, so i did that but still had the same problem. so i did what they called a pair valve bypass, thats the bypass where you take the breather tube and re route it from the back of your airbox to the two breather tubes in the front, but sometimes it would still **** the oil through the emission ports that i had the breather connected too. i later reliezed that its just from running the bike at a high rpm, because the motor is demanding so much air that it acts like a vaccum and causes the oil to be sucked out of the engine case through the breather tube no matter what you do.
best thing to do is to learn to slow them down so that your bike can be running at a lower rpm, and besides, unless you are rocking slow stuff, first gear to me is pointless, even when i was stock, 2nd gear was perfect for anything other then parking lot stuff. learn to use 2nd and the clutch and you shouldnt run into the problem anymore

and this isnt always a god bet ethier, rode with a guy that ran a quart over cause he was stubborn on his 03 gsxr1000 with only 9000 miles on it, rode a whoolie for about 2 and a half miles at around 75 or so, in 2 nd so the rpm's werent that high, and when he sat it down the motor went to knocking, the stock pick up pulls oil from the front of the motor, if you ride at bp for a long while, the oil will be to the rear of the motor along and the motor will strave. a aftermarket pickup pulls oil from the rear, the place where all the oil goes when you are on the back tire. to tell someone to run more oil then needed is plain dum, just because it works for you, doenst mean that it works for everyone, if you are at bp for more then half a mile, then you need a pick up, bottom line, they wouldnt be making them if they didnt work, if that was the case, the factory would just say that the bikes take 4.5 qts, not 3.5 and everyone would be happy

all depends on how many valves are out of adjustment, i work at a dealership and you might have one or two out by 20000, i have over 27000 miles on mine and they still havent been touched, and they dont make near the noise as a kawi. all depends on how you ride and service your bike. i want to say the book calls for about 3 hours just to check the valves, so it all depends on what the dealerships hourly rate is, your looking at at least 250 bucks or so

I can do 2nd, and I could do 3rd with the stock sprockets, but I just wanted to try slower stuff.
