Senior Project Ideas????

I need some ideas for a senior project i have to do. I am in school for mechanical engineering technoligies and next semester will be my last. we have do start doing our planning for the project in one of my class's now and i need to find something to do. It needs to have 2 mating parts that i will make in our CNC shop at school. i was thinking about making a brake master or a steering stabilizer but cant becuase of the difficulities of making them.

anyone have any suggestions? i was hoping to make it bike related so its more intresting..... anything to do with 50's would work too

Are you going to have to do a complete CAD model as well?

Right on. I work with a bunch of MET guys. I am an EET designer for a hellicopter engineering company. Just curious. I am thinking of some ideas though ...

Re: Senior Project Ideas????

has to have at least 2 mating parts... rear sets would just be to individual parts themselves

yes
make a clutch lever like an asv, with SMOOTH edges hahaha, and maybe the pull reduction of the msr retaining the quality of the ASV

a slimmer design, smaller perch so it can fit close to the hb. Ergos type stuff.

Now you're on to something. How about trying to come up with a hand brake and clutch lever combo. So, you would have one mounting with two levers. Sounds kinda difficult, but would be pretty awesome and definitely marketable.

Re: Senior Project Ideas????

1. Hydraulic or spring loaded frame sliders to cushion the initial blow and reduce shock to the bike/motor. Conquer this and you'll be able to pay back those student loans rather quickly......one of these cage guys might buy your design.

2. Fully adjustable clip-on's. As in height and length. Make it fully adjustable without the need for tools so it can be done on-the-fly (like built in allen wrenches or something). Raise em' up & pull them out for stoppies, etc. and put em' back for regular street riding. Demand???? Not sure but if you make your prototype for an 05' 600rr, I'll buy them.

Got more ideas for sale if anybody wants them.
Got a really good one that's actually Wood's idea....not sure if it's supposed to be a secret.....so you'll have to P.M him.

Good luck with your degree. Your discipline will be rewarded.

Last semester I graduated with the same major. MET.
My senior project was designing the intake system for the on campus FSAE team at CSUS, sacramento.

Matt's idea seems interesting. CNC a frame slider /damper that takes some of the shock from crashes. Could design the damper and mate it to the slide.

Simpler is better. You'd be surprised how complex even simple design project's can be. Time flew by for us. CAD drawing 2D, 3D, write up, testing. Ulgh!!
Our testing wasn't that good so proven the reason for our design wasnt the best. Chosing the right members is ideal too. Lets just say, not all our members should have recieved a grade, but thats another story.

If you need any help let me know. ProE is ok. But if you have solidworks it might be easier, but both programs do the same thing.

make a brake lever for a fiddy that hasa seperate part comming out on it for a handbrake set up unstead of having to drill into the stock part allowing for more leverage
