Would a geared EX500 make a decent stunt bike?

I found an 89 EX500 for $200 that runs, but the plastic is TRASH. I have a 99 ZX6R in mint condition right now, and I don't want to hurt the plastic on it (I don't stunt much on it). I want to buy this EX500, throw a 72 tooth rear sprocket on the rear, and just beat the **** out of it until I finally understand how to hold a wheelie, and how to roll my stoppies.

Has anybody else used the EX500 or even an EX250 for stunting? Is it worth my time? I started riding on an 88 EX500 6 years ago, and they have moderate power for a smaller bike. I never had a problem clutching up my old EX500.

Any opinions are appreciated

Personally i dont think they would make that good of a stunt bike, theyre just heavy and the tires on em' are skinny as hell. I mean obviously u could stunt any bike but I dont think the EX are the prime choice. But then again its 200 bux and ur just gonna use it to thrash it around so ide say for 200 bux why the hell not give it a try. If u want just street fighter ur kawi untill u get good then throw the plastics back on.

if you throw a 72t sprocket on it and try to learn to wheelie it's going to beat the **** out of you!!

For $200, why not? Even it it doesnt work out too well your only out 200 bucks. Who knows, you might be able to turn around and sell it for more.

it may end up being a training aid. Like using a sand filled football. Using a heavy power to weight bike will help you when you do it on other bikes.

Re: Would a geared EX500 make a decent stunt bike?

I used to have an '88 EX500, so it's the exact same bike. Learning wheelies is more than possible on it, even with that skinny-*** back tire, it's not a bad bike to learn to wheelie on. The little power that they do make is pretty smooth, wich is a plus for wheelies. Stoppies though... I'm not so sure, with that single side disc brake stoppies are kind of a pain in the ***. They can be done, but it's a pain in the ***. Hell they aren't stunt bikes by any means, but for $200 just buy it, have fun on it, learn on it, beat the **** out of it, it'll be worth it.

Hell yah!! I used to rock wheelies on my old EX as well. Used to do rolling burnouts as well. I wouldn't even bother with a sprocket. It would be a good tool to learn using the rear brake on...like buying a cheap, big, fiddie!!!

Re: Would a geared EX500 make a decent stunt bike?

i have a gs500 , basically same as the ex, that i used to stunt but i am selling it cause i want a faster bike. I want to keep it and get a bigger bike but i dont have much money so i am selling it to get a 600. But its a good bike to learn on cause you cant power them like alot of people do on the bigger bikes. get it, its 200 bucks. im running stock gears on my bike, no need to gear it unless you want to slow them down a bunch.

get anything with fuel injection...that would be a good stunt bike.

Fuel injection is over rated. No one does bar tricks anymore.

I think an EX500 would be perfect to get the basics down, even my 1000 dollar f2 scares the **** out of me because its got enough power to put me on my *** quick.

Re: Would a geared EX500 make a decent stunt bike?

Ive got a 92 GS500 that I am learning on. I pretty much got wheelies down but it doesnt have enough power to hold them very long. After talking with ALOT of techs, I am in the process of going with a 51 tooth sprocket. I was told this would be about all I would need for some basic stunts.

I Got A 250. Stoppies Suck Because Of The Single Rotor. Slow Stuff Is Ok We Still Use The Stock Sprocket
