Re: FI cages are poopy

your frame will crack even if you dont crash.

if i were you i'd stop crashing, i've found tht is the best and cheapest way to avoid damage.

good luck

I've seen frame damage with all of the cages. Even the 905. Take teach's advice. If you are crashing that much, slow down a little bit and work on the fundementals. Everybody crashes. You should expect a cage to wreck your frame when you start flipping it and pancaking the bike. I look at a cage as a tool to keep me from not riding because I dropped my **** doing burnouts or small drops like that. Think of them as drop cages, not crash cages. Because like it or not, thats what they are.

****, i rarely crash, but its the friends who trust the FI cage and then gets *** ram'd, but seeing their frame and motor mounts cracking im just blown away. crash cages shouldnt damage a bike like that regardless.

and like i said before, i did a flip in the air and it landed completely on the right side without any damage to the frame or the bike, just the cage took it. 905 is Definitly a CRASH cage. and for all the FI owners i bet you *****ed out your cage once in a while....lol

Re: FI cages are poopy

I see your point.. and to an extent you are right. I will say that the FI cage will **** a gixxer up. But, I run the FI cage on my f4i and I wouldnt change it for any other cage. I had a 905 before the FI cage. I never crashed the 905 cage, but after about *-8 months of dropping it doing burnouts and little things the thing was just worn out. The 905s are bad about flexing from side to side. It seems like a design flaw to me. I serously doubt the mxd cages have that problem at all. On the other hand, the FI cage is sleek and out of the way.. I hate cages that just scream out and say look at me I'm ****ing huge... lol. A cage shouldnt make your bike look like a dune buggy. naw mean? I have wrecked HARD a few times with the FI cage on the f4i and have not had anything bend or break. I am not gonna blow smoke up erruhbodys *** about FI tho. The FI design just works on the f4i. It does not on alot of other bikes. Once the loop and stabilizer bar get too long, its just a weak cage.

damn good point, the 905 is bulky as hell...shin busters too.

the bikes that got the frame damage was a cbr1000rr and a R*...

no idea on F4I.

FIRST OFF...all these cages are badly designed because when you come down to it. Sturdy steel bolted on to light aluminum...Steel will always Win.

Re: FI cages are poopy

the 905 is a shin buster, but that is easily remedied with soccer shin guards...like $10 or less and you barely even know they're on.

Re: FI cages are poopy

Fi cages work well on bikes with motor mounts that are farther back on the frame. On my 00 zx*r the loop and suport bars are fairly short so the whole thing is sturdy. But on the new gsxrs the motor mount is way forward and high so the loop has to be longer and can flex more. I think cages should be judged on a bike by bike basis(some cages just work better on certain bikes)

Re: FI cages are poopy

I luv my 905 cage on my 01 gixxer1k..Had a FI cage on it and it ripped up alot of mounts...For that year bike I would not recommend an FI cage period..
But I have seen an FI cage on a F4i and it does look shorter which should make it stronger...
Now we just bought another stunt bike (03 gsxr1000) and mod'd my old FI cage added an extra set of FI sliders, welded it up and let me tell you its phuckin strong...
Currently learning circles on that bike and its hit the ground over 50 times the last month or so..without any damage. Only drawback is that you would have to cut another hole in each lower fairing to accomodate the extra slider..Our stuntbike has no fairings so it works out well..
Another important point is that the cage is not supposed to protect your bike from all damage but simply do enuff to keep it running and keep you stunting..

I'll post up some pics later on tonight...

Cheers

bro your dumping a 400 pound bike on it's side i don't care what cage you have on your gonna do damage especially with the dump it, who cares i got a cage attitude. Learn your stunting on a 50 and it will be a lot cheaper and slow it down. If a crash cage is damaging your bike why don't you try stunting without one, let me know how it goes and if u do less damage.

Re: FI cages are poopy

Well I've definitely ruled out an FI cage for my 02 750.

Now I can't decide between a 905 or MXD. I have to ride to my spot since I don't have a trailer so I have to be able to take a few good sized curves.

you can take turns fast, you just cant drag knee. some of our first cages stuck out far because people didnt want to let us cut holes in their plastics, so we just estimated how far to have the bottome stick out.

i can hit freeway over passes at 140 and be fine. you just cant go into a canyon and throw your bike from side to side.

Re: FI cages are poopy

who would be interested in a MXD cage that was made with some .156 wall chromoly with a 1" OD? ill have some pics this weekend, but we just finished making a few.

the material is about 5 times more than what we use now, but its also alot stronger. i would think the cost would be around 250-280, but i havent calculated everything out yet.

Out of curiosity, what welding process and is it heat treated? Assuming all that is taken care of properly..sounds strong :YEAH
