the material is about 5 times more than what we use now, but its also alot stronger. i would think the cost would be around 250-280, but i havent calculated everything out yet.

mounting points on 954 are too weak, it's not going to help to make the cage stronger. You can't beat the laws of Physics. Pancaking bike has lot of energy, that has to go somewhere. If the cage takes the fall, the frame is going to give. Or the mountings. Basicly it's impossible to make a cage that can last every fall.
There has to be somesort of rubber buffer that takes the falls energy. Outside of the cage or between the cage and the frame.

washers are the weak point in our cages, thats why i havent had one complaint of a broken mount. the washers are weaker than the cage and the frame, therefore they give. they break off, weld new ones on, and your cage is good to go.
i weld everything with a tig. i use carbon steel rod. dont heat treat it, because its just not necessary. they heat treat chromoly for parts that go on planes and if you use c.moly rod but its not really necessary for something like a cage. ive never had a weld break, ive seen a .125 tube break though.

whoever said that diff cages work better on diff bikes is on point...i got FI on my kawi with no probs...ran a 905 before that, no problems....just tried an mxd track cage with no problems.
a cage is designed to HELP prevent damage, no completely prevent it.
ya, FI sends me stuff and so does 905...trying to break the barrier down between all these companies...choices are good for everyone involved and ther eis a big enough market to keep ALL the companies doing well.
each mnfctr has good and bad points, many of which have been addressed. some of the cages mount real easy with good instructions, others dont. some appeaer more professional. some have better customer service...it is all give and take.
do your research and then support one of these companies. i've had good experiences with all of them...powers i have not done business with so i can't say yay or nay.
Re: FI cages are poopy
I've had a Powers, 905 and now an FI on my 929. I've been abusing the life out of my FI and it has taken a beating from hell. Only once did it pull itself out of my motor mount--so I just used a longer bolt. It was living hell taking off the 905 and Powers cages especially after beating on it for a while--I'll never get that style again--now they're just my "standby" cages in case my FI dies--Great I probably just jinxed myself and my FI is going to break soon...UGGGHHHH...*** it...
Re: FI cages are poopy
Here's a great story for you cage haters....
My buddies 905 cage on his 929 just CRACKED in two, and the bike HAS NEVER BEEN DROPPED. It cracked at the first weld out of the motor mount bolt. If vibrations can crack the cage then they need to change whatever material they're using.
I can't speak on behalf of the customer service because it happened the night we were out riding and I haven't talked to him since. If my cage cracked and I had never dropped my bike I'd be pissed. It's one thing if it's destroyed in one crash... totally different story if you've never dropped your bike.

Well I have to say I'm kind of suprised. He talked to 905 and they're repairing/replacing the cage for free. Good ****!

when was the last time u saw one of these guys crash? its been a long time, they are pros, they rarely crash so they dont brake ****, to them a cage is just $$$ not really a tool to save the bike since they are good at what they do.....

blah blah blah. Depends on the crash. They're all pretty much the same, but my FI was barely scratched after this: http://www.sektorxii.com/video/chaos_crash.wmv
And that was pretty bad. It's all angle / speed etc. Just get the one you think it prettiest.

My friends and I have run nothing but F.I. for two years without the first problem. I don't think it matters what kind of cage you run if you throw your bke off a bridge, it will be damaged. I was told not to say anything about other cage manufacturers,so I won't. One guy I rode with strayed from F.I. with minimal success. I wouldn't run anything else. I had one on my r6 and now on the 929 and give them hell. But who gives a $hit what I think. I don't have a nickname. :YEAH
