PLEASE HELP! I cant keep stoppies straight Im going crazy Ive tried everything

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gday everyone just signed up...

Anyway I CANNOT keep my rolling stoppies straight. The back end seems to want to come around to the left all the time. I've tried gripping the tank with my knees, putting as little pressure as I can on the bars, keeping my body as straight as I can, looking forward with no movement in my body, everything... the fact that Im posting on the net about it when I can barely use a computer shows how nuts this is driving me Im seriously losing sleep over this

It happens like clockwork so obviously theres something wrong with my technique but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.. it doesn't seem to be a problem when theyre slower but if I bring it up at anything above 35mph or so it immediately starts swinging left... (so back end swings towards the clutch side of the bike). It means I have to put them down way too early and it's VERY frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated I see people in videos doing truly massive ones from high speed and I know I can do it too but I just CANT keep them straight!

Im on an 04 r1 so I can't blame the bike but yeh is this a common problem? Or is it just me!

ANyway thats a pretty big explanation Ill leave it at that! Any help is appreciated thanks.

Re: PLEASE HELP! I cant keep stoppies straight Im going crazy Ive tried everything

Its stock as a rock, no aftermarket stuff at all.. I spose most of my weight it on the pegs and then shifts to the tank... im sitting as far forward as I can in the seat...

Occasionally it goes the other way and swings right instead of left... it's pretty strange really i just hoped it was some beginner mistake that is really common and has an easy fix...

use your handle bars steer against it
the rear goes to the left steer to the left and so on........................
but you have to be high enough that this works

Have you looked at your front suspention adjustment>? When i bought my bike it had 2 full turns more preload on the right fork, and the the compression/rebounds where different on each side... After I adjusted them the same the bike rolled straight... BTW I am no stoppie expert... But it might help?

First off, the higher it is, the easier it is to correct...If your up and the rear is kickin right, put more pressure on the right clip on, vice versa...I put all of my weight on the clipons.

It's gonna take alot of repetition to get them down, so dont get frustrated if you dont figure it out right away

People look too far into things. Like Matt said, most of your body weight should be on the clip-ons. I would'nt recomend locking your arms totally, but they should be stiff. This is a trick that really can't be taught, practice is the only thing that will really make you better at it. Also like Matt said, the higher you are the easier it is too steer. I do all my steering with my upper body, thus the reason for wanting all your weight on your clip-ons. Oh, Matt is a freak of nature.....get a steering damper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Joe Dryden aint too shabby himself...brought up a good point too that alot of people have misconceived, you dont have to lock the arms, I kinda have a little bow in mine too.

With Joe and Matt giving you advice, I'd listen, they know their sh@t! I believe stoppies can't be taught as well and you have to go out and just do it. I'm no expert, but I have been able to keep them straight as of late, so keep working on it....

Re: PLEASE HELP! I cant keep stoppies straight Im going crazy Ive tried everything

Higher the better, don't lock arms, but keep them stiff, and a steering dampner are all very important things when attempting stoppies. Preload is another important thing. Make sure your fork suspension is even. When I'm high enough, I could roll some pretty good ones. When I'm not high enough, my tail end sways one way or the other just like you. It is very frustrating, but just keep on practicing.

i had the same problem, i wasnt centering my body and i wasnt payin attention to my arms, dont keep em stiff but support your wieght with em. i also put my feet under the pegs now, dont know why but it makes it feel more comfortable when i get higher., ps hit the rear brake b4 you come down, that way its less noisy
