stunt off road on private land to learn on an old cbr so you can junk it and not have to think about insurance or screwing your vehicle up plus if you find the right spot of land you will learn a lot faster thats my advice

Then expect to pay a lot for insurance then!

Firstly, bollocks to fully comp... Just go TPF&T or TPO if you're brave.. ring every company going and you'll get it down to about £1000 or so I'd imagine.. I had a £5k R6 when I was 18 and insurance was £1000.. had a zxr400 when I was 17 too so maybe you'd be better starting on a 400 for ££ reasons...

Just remember they cost a lot to run usually too and lots to crash so bare that in mind too.. have you passed your test now then?

Re: need bike and insurance

SCOTT.. 4get all that mate..iv had the same prob..u wanna get a cheap bike or keep the 1 u got..insure that bike makin sure ur policy states u can ride any bike under owners permission.then buy the bike u want i.e r6,gsxr etc put that bike in ur mums name .insure her for that which will be cheap cause age etc and use that.....the only prob is it would need a 33bhp restrictor but who checks that..no 1 iv met any way..

That doesn't work Dan I'm afraid as 1) you have to be 21 or over for "tpo on other bikes" to be legal and 2) if they find out you're riding the other bike all the time then you're fooked (and they will )

Re: need bike and insurance

I was riding an R6 at 18 too.. but for legally to have TPO on other peoples bikes you have to be 21 due to licence restriction issues.. you can still ride a 600 owned by yourself etc but just not other peoples bikes.. I'm pretty sure of it as I just insured my 600 and specifically asked.

Re: need bike and insurance

the only license restriction u have is 33bhp..im 19 and my insurance states i can ride any bike under owners permission ..u cant argue with it writen in black and white..the woman who i insure my bikes with nos what we do and total agrees with it..my mate is just doin the same thing.....if ya wanna no more bout it scott give us a ring mate..ur only resricted for 2yrs mate..still better that ridin a 125 etc.
