CAC’s annual car show raises $2k
By Stacie N. Galang - News Staff Writer
GARDNER — Car enthusiasts feasted their eyes on a host of classic and modern cars Sunday as part of the Gardner Community Action Committee’s ninth annual car show on the back lot of Salvadore Auto Group.
The event, which raised funds for the CAC’s food pantry, attracted about 1,000 people and brought in 100 entrants for the show competition, according to CAC executive director Patricia Jandris.
With temperatures in the mid 60s, Jandris said the weather, and the appearance of the sun, contributed to the success of the event.
“It’s fantastic to have seen the sun,” she said.
The executive director described the car show as a family event. For this year’s show, the CAC also had bouncing machines for children and $1 grab bags for them. The car show also featured a number of special events, including a controlled burnout contest and freestyle motorcycle stunt shows.
It was the first time the car show was held on the premises of Salvadore Auto Group and Jandris said the event went off without a hitch. Jandris gave credit for the day’s success to the nearly 30 volunteers who helped in nearly every aspect.
“I have a completely volunteer driven event here (on Sunday),” she said. “I can say that with pride.”
A fixture of the event is disc jockey and car enthusiast Michael Jablon of Alpha Omega Audio Solutions. Jablon said he volunteers his time and equipment because the CAC feeds hungry people.
“I will continue to come back as long as they ask,” he said.
Jandris said the car show raises about $2,000 for the food pantry, and is one of two major fund-raisers for the CAC.
“If we can make a couple thousand clear, that’s going to feed a lot of families,” she said.
The committee also has an annual golf tournament to raise funds for its food pantry.
