I am changing the old 6v engine out on my z50 and I am replacing the engine with a newer 12v xr50 engine. The engine I purchased did not come with a coil. I was wondering if my old 6v coil will work on the 12 volt engine. Or,.. will the stator on the new engine fry the old 6v coil? I see coils advertised on ebay that work with both. The location of the stock coil in the old z50 is in the back of the tail of the frame. So consequently the sparkplug wire is very long and a xr50 coil would actually be difficult to mount.

 

I would just get a new 12v XR50 coil. My motor is 6v and I think I am running a 6v coil. Don't even mess around with old stuff, believe me I should know
