Help with oil leak

Would a blown head gasket cause an oil leak? I have a steady drip with the bike running and it's dripping from one of the exhaust bolts. It's nearly impossible to track down the source, but it appears it's coming from between the head and the case for the piston. I tried just tightening the head bolts but that didn't help. It's an 88cc engine, and I'm thinking all of the newbies that have been revving the **** out of it finally ****ed something up Any other ideas where the oil is coming from?

the real kick in the nuts is I was going to drop off the bike to the new owner this afternoon

BTW, for anybody that knows their ****, is this top-end gasket kit all I'll need to replace these gaskets? Here's a pic of what's included.

Or do I need the full gasket set? It may be coming from the gasket between the piston case and the main cases, but I doubt the oil would travel all of the way underneath and to the exhaust bolt from there.

Re: Help with oil leak

yea if its looks like its coming fromt the exhaust bolt and you can see if its running down from someplace else. I say you have to change all the gaskets on the head. I would wash it up real good, so the head all clean then fire it up, and see if you can see the drip coming from someplace. But its got to be something in the head. Dont know a whole lot on the 88cc kit. But like you said oil dont run up hill, so it got to be something to do with the 88cc kit...

Hope this helps.

Re: Help with oil leak

yea i ordered just the top end gasket kit, that's all that comes when you order the 88cc anyways. I'll just have to tear it apart when I get the kit and see what the deal is. Hopefully it's just bad gasket.

its most likely one of the o rings. could also be that u dont have an acorn nut on the stud which passes pressurized oil to the head.

fab5fiddy is prob right. It is most likely the green o ring. See the stud on the head that has the copper washer? It is along that stud between the cylinder and the head.

Re: Help with oil leak

would it be possible to unscrew that one stud, replace that o-ring and screw the stud back in without taking everything off?

You have to take off the head. Whatever you do, use a torque wrench to tighten the head bolts. Don't overtighten those.

What are the torque specs on those? The only thing I'm worried about (I had somebody install the big bore kit for me) is making sure I dont' screw up the timing having to take the chain off.

Thanks for the heads up, the nut was on the upper right hand side so that wasn't the problem, but I'll know for reassembly after I put the new o-rings and gaskets in.

Re: Help with oil leak

Got the gasket kit today, took the head off, and noticed Silver Surfer's "Honda mechanic" forgot to install the seal around one of the head studs when he installed the big bore kit

I'm about to finish putting it back together and hopefully it won't leak anymore, the head gasket looked ok, but the seal at the base of the cylinder that was actually there was kinda hard and brittle.

DrATV's shipping kicks *** BTW, I ordered that gasket kit with some other stuff late Wednesday night.

Re: Help with oil leak

It doesn't leak anymore, but it's smoking a little. Hopefully it's just the extra oil that was on the exhaust burning off, if not I'm stratching my head.
