Anyone braced the peg bracket?

Anyone braced the peg bracket? I have heard that this component bends. Being the cheap *** that I am I figure I can weld some kind of a brace on it. Anyone tried this? Where does it bend at?

Unfortunately, it starts bending just outside the mount points, all the way through the curves..If you don't have the fundage for a chromoly piece, just go for it, and if you bend it, get a new stock one; they're only like $26.

Re: Anyone braced the peg bracket?

Im on my third stock bracket, Ive been putting off getting the chromoly one, because I wasnt sure if it would break the mounts out of the motor in a hard crash. Anyone ever heard of this happening? I also like my kickstand. I havent seen one that has the mount for the kickstand. Could it be cut off a stock one and welded on the chromoly one??

I am going to try to weld some supports on it when I get some time.

Same here. I won't give up the kickstand. I swear I saw one that had a stand mount...but now I can't remember where..

Well I looked at the stock piece. Haven't done anything yet but it does look like some ground clearance would be lost by bracing. I may try a piece of angle iron welded to the bottom, notched, bent, and welded to the ends. Might lose an inch of ground clearance but it will save some $$ in the end. If I have to buy a fancy one then nothing was lost except my time.

Re: Anyone braced the peg bracket?

I decided I am not going to brace under the peg mount. I am going to build a bolt on piece that will connect to the top of the peg mount and curve around the rear of the engine and bolt onto the frame. I plan on using tubing in a similar size to the frame. It would be easier to weld it on but it would make removing parts a PITA. I'll get pics when I get around to it. Might even stiffen the frame up some.
