Spark plug and oil question
Spark plug and oil question
I've seen several threads on both issues, but never really an exact answer.
First, will changing from my stock spark plug to a better one make any difference? Is there any performance difference? (I'm sure if there is, its not really noticeable... Is it better for the engine.. etc... etc..
Secondly, as for oil... I usually run regular Valvoline 10w40. I've talked to several people that run a synthetic blend and a couple people that run straight synthetic. What are the advantages/disadvantages? Or should I just stick with regular ol' oil?
thanks,
nags

Re: Spark plug and oil question
I've always used 10w40... Never really read the manual.. just asked a few friends what they use... heh
Re: Spark plug and oil question
my bro used to work at a honda shop, and he said they used gn4 10w40 for just about everything. i think it is very good oil i got lots of hours on 50s with that oil and it never burnt any just got black
Re: Spark plug and oil question
yea.. I change the oil in my 50 a LOT..
Re: Spark plug and oil question
Anything but car oil with energy saving stuff in it will be good. And for sparkplug, not really, unless you can find Iridium or other specilty that is the exact size and heat range. They are usually 8$, but Ive seen them for 40$.
Re: Spark plug and oil question
im running castrol syntec right now. i definately noticed a difference when i did it.. ran better, didnt really notice it having any more power though
i did new ngk (?) iridium plugs at the same time though, so im sure it was a combination of both
edit: **** i just noticed this was the fiddy forum
i was talkin about my f3

Re: Spark plug and oil question
car oil is isnt goodor bad for your bike
heres why
the motorcycle has a transmission that uses the same oil as the motor
twice the tear down factor(losses viscosity much faster) than a normal car motor means you change the oil more often
regular motor oil is not made to handle it
gn4 10w 30 in the summer 10w-40 in the summer
plugs
i run a 7 in mine no probs
runs about 285 degrees big bore with cam and stroked all that chit
read the spark plug stuff already posted its really good
get a temp gun see where your at on temp go from there
without knowing what the temp is your pissin in the wind

from alot of research for some time now,
ive found out at walmart, the Mobil 1 (red cap) is best for the buck
5 bucks a quart and it performs way better than most motorcycle oils...
your choice but i love it...
it does nothing to the clutch and its fully synthetic for the protection....
Re: Spark plug and oil question
I have several buddies that are Honda certified mechanics, and another buddy that works the parts counter in the same dealer and races MX, and they all say to stick with the Honda oil. I change it about every two weeks, and now that it's getting warm out, I'll be riding more, so I might do it once a week. It's only half a quart..
Re: Spark plug and oil question
I use a lot more than 1/2 qt
