broke the shock

I stripped the lock nut while I was trying to replace the spring. I got the spring and eyelet off but the nut is still stripped on the shaft. If I hit it with some weld so it welds to the shaft will this saveme?

The same thing happened to me. I found another nut with the same threads, used a die to clean up the threads on the shock and put the other nut on. No probleums.
