Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
I just installed mine. Runs great except for some noise. sounds like valve tap, but the valves seemed to be adjusted correctly. I am running rich if that matters, but i dont think it does. any help would be great. btw cam chain is tight.
Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
make sure valves are at .002" lash at TDC compression. i have noticed 88 kits to be a bit louder than stock motors. as long as yer valves are adjusted properly and the thing aint knockin, a little valve noise is normal. ride it like u stole it!
Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
you might check the cam bolts
make sure they are tight
also valves are set at .002 in .004 out
leave the exhaust a tiny bit loose give ya alil xtra gain
try that loose 4 fab youll love it
kinda almost like gaining a degree in cam timing
almost
hehehe

Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
no thanx, ill keep mine tight. they run quieter that way. lash set at .004" is .002 less lift than lash set .002". why would i want less lift??
less lift means less exhaust gas leaving the engine.

just gives ya lil more burn time, only about half the time it takes to blink,
but thats per rev
and i believe the ex setting is supposed to be .004
lift is only one part of the equation
duration and timing are also part of it
its just an old trick used on hondas
try it if you like
dont if you dont want to

Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
Couldn't you achive the same result with proper cam selection? Keep every bit of lift by setting lash at .002, but also gain the extra time until the exhaust valve opens? Got any contacts for a good cam manufacturer? maybe someone who does custom grinds? I am being serious this time.
Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
more than likely youd want to play with the cam gear
degree it in for bottom end or top end depending on the cam you choose
you cant set the timming on those with electronic so i dont know how much that would help

from powroll site http://www.powroll.com/tech_specs_pcam.htm
By advancing or retarding the cam timing you can tailor the power curve of your engine. Typically, advancing the cam 2 to 4 degrees will increase the low end power. Retarding the cam 2 to 4 degrees may enhance top end power. Before attempting to change your cam timing, be sure the valve pockets are deep enough to keep the valves from hitting the piston. See the cam spec sheet for minimum clearances. Clearances can be checked by claying the top of the piston.
Performance cams require other engine modifications to work properly. For instance, a radical cam will not work well in a stock engine. The engine will tend to stutter and act like it is loading up during acceleration.

Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
WELL IF ITS NOT VALVES IT MIGHT BE THE PISTON NOCKIN BECAUSE THE CYLINDER ISNT ALIGNED...
BULL **** WITH Aligning The Cylinder With The Head...if Its Not Aligned You Are Going Hear A Tapping Noise When You Give It Throttle With Alittle Drag.
Loosen The Head Bolts, And The Try To Hold Up The Head While Tightening It Down. Meaning You Have To Loosen The Side Bold As Well. When You Raise It The Side That Doesnt Have The Bolt Will Raise And The Head And Cylinder Should Align....fixed My Noise...was Loud As **** Too.
And It Feels Like My Bike Lost Top End From The Bore Kit. Might Need A Cam.

Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
it helps on tweaked motors to dial in certain
aspects to a track on a tight track you set it up for bottom end
which is advancing
and on miles or half miles we would retard it for top end
for just stunting itll do not much for ya
better off buying a 12 tooth sprocket
just my opinion of course

Re: Honda Trailbikes 88 kit Help
when you go oversquare on these little motors, you tend to get more piston noise....
leaving the valves alittle loose doesnt hurt a thing...mis a couple shifts, and over rev your bike with tight valves, and see how she runs...
you can adjust ignition timing, though I have not found it to be much of a gain unless its a super custom application....
