kitaco big bore problems
I think I already know the answer to my question. I just installed the kitaco 88CC big bore kit with the 20mm carb and cam, oil pump and clutch springs ( Thanks to Don at DPM) I already have an fmf pipe and a kitaco rev box. The bike idles fine and is fine with just a little bit of throtle, wide open it sounds like it is hitting the rev limiter. The plug is black so I know it's rich, just not sure how accurate that is because I can't really run it. I am going tomorrow to get some jets and a pilot jet and think it should cure my problem. Right now it has an 85 main and 35 pilot, I live at sea level. Anyone else have this problem of it running this rich out of the box????? Or is there maybe another problem other than running rich? What jets has anyone used to get this thing spot on? The needle and pilot screw I can mess with once I get the main and pilot right. Thanks, Jeff

Someone(s) should make a trouble shooting guide for this type of problem, cus I hear about it all too often. Maybe we can start a help group and call it V.O.B.B. (Victims Of the Big Bore).
My name is Jimbo and I have a problem jetting my kit correctly............

all ya have to do is scroll down a few posts and get the best damn info i have ever seen on jetting. i couldnt have put this any better. alot of people get ansy and start turnin screws and changin jets and movin the needle and have no idea how a carburetor even works. do some reading and save yerself alot of headaches. jetting can be very nerve racking. just take yer time and do one thing at a time. that way u know what is working and what is not.

If all else fails, pull the side cover as well as the cam cover and make sure that bitch it timed. I put mine on in my garage and after all was said and done it still didnt run right. Even took it to the shop where i work at and let all 3 techs ride it and they all said it was a carb problem. Well needless to say, before I started messing with the carb, I double checked the timing and sure enough I was off a tooth on the cam sprocket. Fixed that and it ran like a champ. Never messed with the carb, never messed with anything else. I have the Takagawa 88cc big bore kit with the 2 brothers pipe, rev box, super head on it now, the internal rotor, and the STOCK plug and the breather kit for the head and I have NEVER had to adjust the carb. The kit was just the bore kit, pipe, breather and oil pump and carb, all the other stuff I just added and all I did was take the carb that came with the kit out of the box and put it on. Also, on NGK plugs, the higher the number the colder the plug and so fourth, but be careful on how hot of a plug you run, I would just run the stock plug for a while then take it out and read it from there to see if you are running, lean/rich or hot/cold. but don't take my word for it, I only work for a Honda shop.
PS. Hope all that helps.

Just kidding, thanks for the input. I guess it could be off a tooth, but wouldn't it not be running right at all? I am going to get new jets anyway just so I can tune it for the diff. weather cnditions. I was told that the 85 main is to rich for my area. I will double check to see if I lost the timing. Thanks again.
