Who has applied fork springs? My c-clips STILL pop out

I bought these because they came with the fittings to connect them to the lower fork leg.

I'm used to the stock forks were the springs actually thread on, these have no way of staying connected at all? Well I've had the problem of my C-clips popping out on my old fork legs ALL the time. I figured they were bent and bought some sano +1's. Went riding today and they are STILL popping out. I'm kind of afraid because the springs aren't threaded on... therefore there is nothing holding the entire fork leg assembly from falling out!

WTF is the deal? No one else has a problem with these C-clips? I have applied springs, nylon bushings and +1 fork legs, do you think if I went back to stock springs it would stop? Maybe to much pressure from the springs? I dunno what the deal is but I'm about to send this ****** off the nearest bridge

Anyone spare me some advice on how to make these things quit popping out?

This is from normal riding, NO jumping. All from wheelies down a paved road!

sounds like the snaprings are worn out. are they all tweaked looking? or clean groove in fork leg so snapring seats better.

That's going to be my first move, get new clips and see if that helps...

If it doesn't I'm going to take out the springs and weld those ****ers solid. Who needs a front suspension for doing whuulies anyways? :YEAH

I can imagine the stoppies now

Anyone rigged up a rigid front end before?

Got any idea's on welding them solid?

edit: does anyone know what diameter pipe I would need that fits tightly inside the upper forks and would be strong enough? How would I go about making them solid?

to tell you the truth I already tried a pair of heavy duty BMX forks.... the head tube on the frame isn't big enough

I'm really tempted to try and rig something up with the stockers though. Only problem is I don't have access to a welder

Re: Who has applied fork springs? My c-clips STILL pop out

well I only ride street, It wouldn't be to bad. I dunno about drilling through the fork lowers though. I was thinking more on the lines of making an extension that would fit snuggly in the uppers and weld them in around the bottom and to the lowers :YEAH

It'd actually be pretty awesome for stunting I think. I bet I can pick up about 40' in my stoppies too :YEAH

Re: Who has applied fork springs? My c-clips STILL pop out

I have applied springs in the front. I had that problem in the beginning of stuff slipping out but we found out that was because they weren't put in right. Everything is okay now.

You are crazy if you are going to weld you front forks solid........

Come ride my minibike if you think you will like it.......

Pete and I both have the same setup as you on our Z50's and We beat on them with Zero problems.

Buy yourself a set of $20 Z50 forks off ebay and some new clips and be done.

What kinda help is that? What'd you do to fix the problem?! If I don't get this fixed within the next week or so fab5fiddy I'll send you my uppers and lowers and some $ and you can do your magic? Just need a strong pipe to go connect in between the two. I figure leave the rubber boots on, and when you are done slide them up to cover all the welds :YEAH I'll have to check on the length, whatever makes the bike sit level :YEAH

Re: Who has applied fork springs? My c-clips STILL pop out

Nick why not look into getting some upsidedown forks? I've read here theres a couple that even fit in the stock steering stem. I know you've dropped a decent amount of cash on your XR already, but these guys were talking like $50-75 for MR50 forks.

Re: Who has applied fork springs? My c-clips STILL pop out

just buy some bbr forks and ebay your springs and +1 legs and you will be half way there. As silver surfer said rigid will suck. just think about the next cannonball and cutting through the baseball field with no suspension
