Question Top End Speed on a fiddy....

OK so I have the big bore kit & CDI, with one down in the rear sprocket... Im still the same top end as a stocker... what have you all done to get the most outta your top end?

one UP in the front sprocket? Go down another in the rear?

Whats a good top end power speed mod you guys reccommend?

Thanks!

Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

look for a four speed
you could play all day with sprockets
and never find the top speed with a good grunt of the start that you will like
a four speed is the way to go

I run a 16/38 set up.If you are running a stock carb you are only going to go as fast as a stock carb bike.with the 88cc kit you will just get there faster.88cc=20mm and you will smoke a stock bike on top.

Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

shuggs i bought a 15T front sprocket for $8 and it made a very noticable difference (not night and day, but) one tooth up or down on the front sprocket is mathematically equivilant to ~2.66T in the opposite direction on the rear sprocket. so 14/34 is very close to 15/37, it all depends on how much chain adjustment to care to loose from your changes. correct me if i'm wrong, but jonnyl's setup would probably move the rear wheel foward ~1/3-1/2". moving the rear wheel back is always a better choice for handling and high speed stability. so it'd probably be best to go up on one sprocket and down on the other, to have approx. the same chain adjustment, but i don't think you could go larger than a 16T on the front w/out having clearance issues.

Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

i have a street monkey runnng an 88cc 4 speed manual im running 16 front 28 rear gets it to about 54 mph on street tires.if you are running a stock head that is the most of your problem.its all in the flow.you can have as big a carb and exhaust but the stock head flow small valves and ports will restrict you.get a xr70 or performance head for more gains from what you have.fooling with gearing is a comprimise all top speed for no low end or all toruqe and no top.you have to meet in the middle somewhere or just buy 2 bikes one for street and on for dirt

If you think thats the case then you need to ride my 50.

Go with a 15 tooth front and 35 rear. I'm 215 LBS and my bike does over 40 mph with this setup and can still easily loft the front in any gear. Shuggs...you ought to know....I ****ed you up on the top end at Toys for Tots and I had the stock cam in there. Also make sure you have a bigger carb to keep the motor supplied with fuel/air at those speeds....and doing a little port work on your head or getting a 70cc head really works wonders.

Cool Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

Shugga i've got about the same set up as you and i went to 15 tooth takegawa. It was a decent improvement on top end but still torque from hell on low to mid range

Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

Boreing it out doesnt change top speed of the bike. It only adds to the acceleration and makes it quicker. Its all gearing baby. It would help to get the bike a bore/head/carb combo and then play with sprokets and get it geared right wre you want it, with the extra power you could make it accelerate like a stock one but blow it away in top speed. Play with ur gearing is what I would say.

Re: Top End Speed on a fiddy....

Whats the deal about top speed.
I have a 88cc takegawa bore kit with 2 down on the the rear.
I use the stock carb to keep my low end torque. I have a 62 main jet and a K&N filter. Bike topped out at 37-38 mph. I dont know what stock MPH is but i love my fiddy for stunting and slow ****. If i want to go fast I get on my REAL BIKE for real speed. FIDDYS = Stunting Not 1/4 mile racers !!

You never rode my Fiddy......

Its completely all about the gearing and how much fuel/air you can get in the motor at higher RPM's

A Bi Bore, Cam, Big Carb, Monster Head and the right gearing make you dangerous.
