Question whats the deal with this?

hey guys Ive seen pics of people removing the top cylinder bolt and jb welding or something a 3-4" clear plugged tube on to it.

hope Im not being to confusing....

what gains to get by doing this, more air into cylinder???

they arent jb welded they are completely different caps, it removes pressure from the head, you can find them on ebay for $20

oic....no, the pic I seen is exactly what I wrote, must have mickey moused the job....

is there any perf. gains? or is it just to relieve pressure?

supposedly, but it's such a little motor I can't see it being to much. Silver Surfer has one on his bike I'll let him chime in.

I have one on my fiddy. I only was after the look, but I was told at my local shop that once you BBK your bike the compression that the motor generates puts heaps of stress on your engine gaskets & seels.
With the head breather it eliminates this.
(Apparently helps throttle responce too, but I havent noticed that.)

what if you just drilled a hole in your tappet cover, tapped it for a hose barb, and ran a tube from there to a filter of some kind, like something from a lawnmower....

Its just a crancase breather. It lets your 50 head breathe nicely and it allows the motor to Rev up a little faster. If you put your finger over the end of the crancase tube you can actually feel lots of hot air rushing out.

Its a real nice $25 investment for your motor.

i'm one that actually made one myself, i got an extra tappet cover and used a hose barb in the opening. i must say it turned out to be really nice quality (and i'm not just saying this cause i made it). i'll get some pics soon.
