Unhappy Whats wrong with my fiddy

I have a 2003 xr 50 ridden maybe a dozen times it has a complete 88 kitaco kit white bros exhaust etc. It was running great but all of a sudden its seems like when i hit the gas to quick in any gear including neutral the bike seems to bog or choke and not get any power, if i rev slow its fine. Only thing i have done is change the oil, lube and tighten the chain. cleaned my air filter 3 times to make sure it was good. I even ran the bike down the street without the filter to make sure and it still bogged. Seems like its not gettin the power it had and the bike does not pop up like it used to epescially like it did when i first got it... Almost like i lost compression. Also there is a small ticking in the motor in the front of the bike does something need to be tuned? or is that normal. I had the work done by a performance shop. Any help i would appreciate.

the ticking noise up front is your valves....it sounds like you need to take a look at them and gap them properly 0.002inch or 0.05mm ...just make sure your on the t mark of the flywheel and the valves are closed....or look at page74 of your manual......if they are not gapped properly it could screw up performance bad

Clean the jets, there is a main and a idle (on most bikes) and also adjust your valves. problem solved

Pull the spark plug and check to see what color the electrode is. If it's white your running lean(which is what it sounds like to me anyways). If it's black or sutty then it's rich. If it's tan your golden. But it sounds like a lean carb condition to me.

Man what a pain in the *** to do an adjustment. I did the adjustment and it seemed like it was fine to begin with.. But its still tickin a bit and i dont want to make things worse so im going to bring it back to the guy who did the work. Is it normal for it to need an adjustment after only a few rides? Or is this somehing that should have been done? I just want to ride the damn thing.

If you have the kitaco 20mm carb have tried adjusting the float level? Lowering the level a few mm worked wonders on my bike. No bogs

If you have the kitaco/keihin 20mm carb this is the float. Its at the bottom of the carb. To adjust it you need to break off the little tab that used to be where the tip of that screwdriver is pointing.

Now hold the carb upside down and measure from the lip on the carb to the top of the float.

Now slightly bend down the little tab that I`m pointing to till the float is @2mm higher when held upside down. Intstall the carb back on the bike and test.

Have you tried cleaning the pilot jet? The orifice is very small and can become clogged rather easily.
