jetting
Re: jetting
first of all, what jet are you running? second, i dont think a pilot jet is even available for a stock carb. if you are running a stock main, there is no possible way the bike is running too rich.
Re: jetting
well something is wrong if its running rich with a stock jet. use the choke as a tool to help you find out if its running rich or lean. also try reading the sticky about carburetion.

Me to Fab, and i read the carb write up.

tryed every spot on the needle....did nothing....i thought i would need a new jet aswell.
i posted the same qyestion no one responded?????
do the in to concideration...its cold in toronto....i thought that was why

Re: jetting
i have a white bro's exhaust and uni dual stage air filter. i live in upstate NY where i have been riding in 30-40 degree days BRRRRR but fun. i run a 60 main jet and i moved the clip on the needle down 1 which is 2 up from the bottom. it raised the needle and it does run rich at idle to 1/4 turn but from 1/4 to fulll throttle its a lil bit rich but there is NO bog and it takes right off i have excellent low end power, my middle range is great and high it dies off but thats just because the the engine is stock. i'd rather it run a bit on the rich side than lean. no need to pop an engine even though i know the fiddy motor can take it. my air/fuel screw is about 3/4 turn out and idle screw is about 3 1/2 turns out. this is the 1st carb i have ever worked on. its a pain in the A s s ive spent about 15+ hours ripping it apart and putting it back together and riding it to see if i accomplished anything. learn how to do a plug chop and that will help you determine what you need to do.

Re: jetting
dude ive raced motocross for many years, i also did the exhaust mods. which in return will let the bike breath more and will richen it up, also i have the stock filter mods and was going to get a filter which will allow more aire into the motor and will richen it up.....fab i know you know your stuff but it just started to sound like you were trying to punk me, i just wanted to ask what size main jet did you switch if any, i like my bikes to be crisp as i can get them....sorry
Re: jetting
bro, im not trying to punk anyone. im trying to help you. you are thinking backwards trust me. i work on fiddys every single day and have been building small engines in general for 14 years.
adding an aftermarket exhaust and/or filter will indeed let more air in and out of the engine. a stock carb cannot keep up to these demands, there for a larger jet is needed to accomodate that extra air that is entering the engine.
too much air = lean condition
too much fuel = rich condition
take my advise as you will. i think everyone will agree when i say ive never steered anyone in the wrong direction. unless you asked me about a powerband.

Re: jetting
listen to what fab is trying to tell you
your probably lean not rich
if your running an air filter and the exhaust mod your letting more air pass through the motor making it run leaner less air makes it richer
you asked for info you got the info but you dont want to listen why do you ask questions you either dont wanna listen to the answer or you think you already know the answer too.
pull the plug out and look at it is it black white or tan if your a motocrosser for years you would know this is the first thing you check to see where your carb is set up at
fab is correct in what he told you so take his advise or dont but dont come ask a question then argue with the answer because you dont like the answer
i bet his powerband is twisted in a knot thats why its running rich fab
we shoulda known ...oh well

Re: jetting
anybody that rides should know that if the plug is dark black it is running rich, white is way to lean....lets just forget what i asked, cause maybe what i am typing isnt what i am thinking to other people reading this...i have a good knowledge of motors in gen., lets just forget this post cause i think everything is just backwards...sorry for the confusion....later
