FAB5 a question for you.
FAB5 a question for you.
Could an 84 z50 motor use the CDI setup from 90s or even an XR50? I think the 84 has a points setup. If not how come or what would it take to make it work? Reason i am asking, the woman said she might get me the big bore kit from you, if I am good, but I have an 84 Z50 that the motor works but I dont have the coil setup for it. I dont want the Z to be down while I am upgrading the motor. i know it doesnt take too long for the bore swap but with my luck i will run into problems. Help me out, thanks

u can swap cdi to that with no probs. the bore kit is the same from 82 up regaurdless. if u want cdi just get a stator plate and a flywheel from an 88 on up. :YEAH

u are correct. i was hammered when i replied to that. excuse my drunkeness
Re: FAB5 a question for you.
Damn so it will not work then.
So you would have to change out the crank? It would be just cheaper to get a coil then. What year did they start making the CDI motors? Anyone know forsure? Do you think that the CDI motors produce better power than a coil type motor?

Re: FAB5 a question for you.
cdi came out in 88. the crank and rod are the same with the exception of the taper on the end wont allow the new flywheel to fit. a coil is much cheaper than all that ****. not sure about a cdi making more power but it is definately more reliable.

Re: FAB5 a question for you.
I've got a 1975 ish z50 big bore motor with points
It runs ok, could be a tad better, but it works fine for me.
It's nice though cuz it has a lighting coil, so I got a headlight
And yes, you're right the crank is different on a CDI motor
