Missing power, irradic idling???

Lately my 50 has been idling pretty iridically, it'll idle fun then just raise up on it's own really high. To the point were you can't really put the bike in gear. I've tried playing with the idle adjustment screw on the carb but it'll just die once the idle goes back down. This happens all the time even when the bike is warm and cold. Also some friends have borrowed it for a while and the thing seems like it's really down on power since i've gotten it back, it barely wants to pull it up in second and not at all in third anymore. I'm assuming it's probably the carb but don't know for sure. Has anybody around had success with rebuilding their carb, or am i just going to need a new one? I also just pulled the plug and it was all fouled out and black. tia for any help

Clean the carb, and mess with the air screw a little bit, if the weather is changing it will effect the way it runs as well.

Re: Missing power, irradic idling???

Already tried playing with the idle screw, it's been doing it since the summer so i don't think it's just from the weather change. Also I already checked out the throttle cable and adjuster. Anybody else have any input

Re: Missing power, irradic idling???

Check your ground and take apart the carb - main jet , pilot jet and clean them along with the float bowl

Re: Missing power, irradic idling???

first off is it a stocker with stock airbox and carb
i love how people give advice without knowing what you have
no one should be able to answer this without that info
if its all stock i would say your mixture screw is off a lil that is what controls the fuel while it idles the black plug means it is to rich check you needle setting to rich will cause the probs you are talking about
the clip should be in the middle of the needle

this cat posts up **** about all kinds of tech questions when he doesn't know a damn thing about a bike obviously. I was going to say along the same lines with five0 and fab. I ran into both of these problems and these two fixes worked for me.

My ct70 was doin the same thing he's taking about. Seemed to be that bolt holes on the intake were stripped causing bad contact with the intake and carb. Re-tapping the holes solved the air leak problem and ran like a raped ape.

Re: Missing power, irradic idling???

hahahaaa
impressive display, but your still proving yourself as a fool. you want some tuning factors? how about everything off the motor, where the bike is, temperatures, oils, timing...
i dont want this guy to follow your advice and not get anywhere. act like everyone before your advice is wrong because it doesnt matter what components are on the bike, they were giving general advise that will work no matter whats on the bike. LAYOFF YOU FOOL!
hahahhaaaa!!!
