Painting question??

How much paint does it take to cover a bike?? Is one quart enough of a base color? Looking to really pimp out my 929 this winter.

Re: Painting question??

should be plenty as long as u arent trying to paint white over black or a real light color over a real dark color. Tryo to use a primer/sealer pretty close to the shade of the paint u are using such as.....white primer-white basecoat, lt gray-silver,green,etc... and black primer/sealer to real dark colors such as black, dk red....etc..... 5 or 6 light coats is better than 2 heavy *** coats...looks nicer tooo......just my

Re: Painting question??

after a good primer, reducer, and hardner. 1 qt of paint should be plenty to spray the whole bike. What kind of paint are you using? Keep them light and I wouldn't use any more than a 50% overspray. the angle of the plastics makes it run really easily! I've painted a bunch of body kits and that **** is annoying. Keep them light and plentiful and it will end up lookin much much better!

Re: Painting question??

Be sure to add a felx additive such as Bulldog, (spray on two light coats on all you plastics then add to your base and clear) or your paint will chip and go to **** soon after painting it......

Re: Painting question??

Depends on the kind of paint. And you never just need a quart of paint. To that paint you must also add reducer, hardner, and any other additives you feel necessary. Also, on a professionaly done paint job you will need all the prep work. This includes primer, wetsanding, and clearcoat. All in all, to paint a sport bike. I'd probably charge anywhere from 600-1000 dollars depending on the design and time it could go as high as 2g's. Now if yuo really wanted it done. You could probably take your plastics to a body shop and just have them shot with automotive paint for about 400 bucks. But I can almost promise you it won't turn out as nice as you'd like. Just my

Someone has never bought paint before. Just picked up a qt. of paint and reducer for my gf's Jeep over the summer...$114 and the reducer ain't that expensive. The painting itself isn't that time consuming, it's all the prep work you're paying for. I've been shooting a lot of Delstar b/c it's a 1-shot. The base/clear is nice though cause you can see any runs before you clear.

Re: Painting question??

i could probably handle the prep work... i currently drive a primer gray 1974 Nova SS hehe. and taking plastics off and such is a breeze, so basically the only work done by the "professional" is the actual spraying of the paint, ive scratched/cracked 2 of my plastics since i bought the bike and wanna have them fixed by next summer then it'll have a cage and whatever happens from there on well we will see lol. But yeah tryin to get an estimate of what its goin to cost me.

Re: Painting question??

$40 autozone spray gun
$50 to rent an air compressor
about 200 bucks for paint and primers and clear
and some sandpaper and some time.

May not turn out too professional looking. But you can do it that way. Good enough for any stunt bike IMO. Give it a shot. If nothing else it'll be a good learning experience. You'll have to do it in a heated area though. If you shoot that **** outside in winter temps... you're just asking for trouble!

Don't forget to do some wetsanding after the primer. Maybe the next to last coat as well. Just to be sure on the runs and any imperfections. Depends on how picky you are. Good luck!
