Need a new rear tire.

Just got back from my local bike shop to get a 4k mile service and the dude asked if I want to get a new rear tire which is getting bald. I asked what he suggested and said for my bike (03 gixxer 750) I should stick with the 180 because it's not as round as a 190 and would give me more miles on it. What are your guys' advice. I plan to ride track school soon, and hardly ride but once a month around town. I like the look of the 190 but not sure which is better.

Re: Need a new rear tire.

you can go wider it will just hurt handling a little bit, probably not even niticable on the street. Its got a slower turn in since it will be wider, and will have more of a triangular shape to it since its being pinched to fit in there kinda. It will work just fine, do it if you ride your bike as little as you say you do. I upped 1 size on my rear as well as the front when i changed em... but my .02 do whatever u want. get the 190 if it makes u happy, just gonna hurt handling a lil bit but nothing noticable.

have you ever gone up a tire size?

you will notice it.... i went to a 170 (from stock 160) on the f3 and its definately noticable. not a great deal, but it takes some getting used to

stick with the 180. plenty wide for stable wheelies.... no point in going bigger (other than "looks" if you wanna be a squid like that)

I went from the 160-170 also. I can definately tell a difference....but it was also a different style of tread/pattern/form also. Damn thing is I can lean it like a motha and still can't get the sides worn(My old tire no biggy).

Re: Need a new rear tire.

I thought with the wider rear tire, I would have better handleing. If it's just the opposite then I'll just buy another 180. thanks.
