having issues getting/keeping bike running

Help .. 95 zx6r. Bike will start only if i crack the throttle all the way open, then it will idle for a little bit, let me rev it up, and then after sitting a few more seconds it dies. Sometimes it hesitates before revving, and while choked it just keeps surging up and down. any ideas? oh yea... after like 10 minutes of this it overheated because the fan came on for a minute or so. thanks

sounds like somthing with your carbs/jets... on my old bike i cleaned the carbs and a week later it started doing what your talking about... i took the carbs off and there was a little piece of dirt in one of the jets... i blew it out with a compressor and the bike ran great

agree with that, also could be a dirty/blocked up filter, does your bike have an in-line fuel filter fitted? little aftermarket type thing?, sometimes with these they work there way to a vertical position which gives em an air bubble at the top, if so tip it over horizontal and it will cure it, they normally have semi transparent white bodies, if it looks grey or brown change it

as well as checking carbs check for real basic **** like old porus fuel pipe, cracked/brittle rubber, **** in fuel tank blocking outlet

its normally something simple
