Honda cct installation

I have the repair guid and it says that I have to take off the valve covers and everything to find tdc in order to put my cct in. Is that true is there an easier way to find it? and would someone just walk me through how to do it because I feel like I'm gong to mess up... The locking key that looks like it was in it shot out inside the bag does that matter too?
thanks

Re: Honda cct installation

Here's a site with pictures for an F4 I don't know but it should be the same as an '01 F4i.

Anyone know if it is the same?

I don't know what locking key you are talking about, are you replacing it with an OEM or an APE CCT?

Here's the site:

Re: Honda cct installation

here we go

first that key's only purpose is to pull the lifter into the body of the cct.
turn it clockwise and it retracts the lifter to prevent it from damaging the cam chain.

first we'll take out the old one.
on top of the cct (cct is mounted on the right side of the engine case under the throttle bodies) there is a single bolt and washer, take it out and save it. put the key you got into the cct turn clockwise and push it into the cct (this will pull in the lifter and lock it in the retracted position.)

now remove the two mount bolts for the cct (they are allen head)

take new cct and put the key into and lock it in the clockwise postion.

put a new gasket on the cct and a little loc-tite on the allen mount bolts and install it just like the one you took out. (the allen mount bolts=tighten to 7ft lbs.

removed the stopper key
then put in the sealing bolt and washer.

hope that helps
