Valve Adjustment
I am in need of my valves being adjusted. Do you hear a pinging noise when you know it's time?
How hard is it to do it and what tools do I need? The dealer wants like $250 to do it including the shims. What the hell are shims?
Thanks guys!

the shims are what goes between the lifter bucket and valve stem tip. They're really cheap like a couple of bucks a peice. if your shyt's got way too much clearance, you might hear a ticking noice. How many miles on the bike? Honda recomends 16k before checking valve clearance on their bikes.
16,000?!
Well if they say you need the valves adjusted at about 16,000 then I'm overdue!
My F4 has 19,500+ on it, I know I'm almost at 20K. Damn, I better make sure the valves are the next thing I do.
I need a new clutch too,
.
Poor bike it has held up with NO mechanical problems so I better maintain it, it deserves it...

No. You don't need to adjust at 16K but they do recomend checking at 16K. I just say Fu*k it and wait til it takes a sh*t. Scary.......I'm an aircraft mechanic.
