f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

ok so i know on the newer FI bikes if you unplug the cluster is doesnt run...on the 98 f3 u unplug it, it runs great untill you get over 50-60 mph? it acts like it is starving for gas and misses like crazy...anyone know what to do to bypass this? a buddy has a 97 and it runs perfect with it unplugged??

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

No tip over sensor on Carb'd bikes, i think the hose its mounted to the fairing stay... u need to pull the litel thing out of the ram air and hook up that hose to it

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

ok ill try that and see what happens...i think your talking about the little silver things, that is all that the 2 hoses attatch too...it does run fine with out them though...if you take gauges off get on the road and start ripping through the gears heres what happens....1st gear tachs out fine, 2nd gear tachs out fine, third gear tachs out until about 7k rpm and then it starts acting up...some one also said that maybe there is a ground loop inside the cluster as well??? i dunno ill try putting those pieces back on though

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

if you remove the hoses it will run like junk ( it will accelerate but not hold a steady rpm will miss and sputter) at anything over 40 mph. the speedo/ tach should have zero effect. I ran without one for a couple months without any problems. once I removed the ram air box and pair valve lines it ran like junk! I put the hoses back on but not the box. Now I can't go over 65 mph. I didn't put the little silver funnel on though. I'm gunna try that. sorry not to jack the thread

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

I'm not sure about the '93 model, but on a lot of them the speedometer controls the fuel pump. With the cluster disconnected, the fuel pump thinks you are not moving and runs at low speed.

So yeah, it seems like the engine is starved for fuel because it is.

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

that would make sense about the fuel pump..no way to bypass that huh? oh and yeh i tryed puttin the rest of the hoses on and nothin...the air box is still in tact, but like i said the bike runs great and will completly top out with guages connected...disconect and WAMO! we were thinking that maybe there is a ground loop built in the cluster? i dunno but im sick of lookin at them and ready for them to come off hahah....just an option on the headlight thing, i used my old harley headlight, perfect streetfighter look :YEAH that and it makes the honda run better...haha JOKIN!

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

If you had a wiring diagram, you could fix it so the fuel pump runs at full speed all the time. It might drain your battery faster when you are not moving, though.

Re: f3 gauges unplugged and doesnt run right?

ok, you are all wrong!

the f3 has a highspeed air valve on the carbs. without the gauges it will run like junk.

on the main wiring harness where it plugs into the gauges, there is a wire on teh bike side of the plug that is pink. you have to take that wire and ground it. once you do that, bike will run fine.

for everyone else that doesnt' know bikes, stop answerign questions with BS.

and anyone with an F3 that attempts this mod and has problems, send me a PM and i'll help ya out further. it's pretty self explanatory though, find pink wire in plug where gauges used to go, run wire to ground somewhere on bike, bike runs.
