Ever disassemble a 929 motor?
Ever disassemble a 929 motor?
I need to swap the crank in my 929. I have the motor out and am considering doing the work myself. How hard is it? What special tools will I need? I've never split the cases on a motor before but I've done just about everything else. I've got the shop manual on order. Is there anything I should look out for? Thanks.
If I were you, I'd take it to the shop, r&r of a crank involves remeasuring crank/block clearences and replacing crank bearings on top of all the bs w/ the trans, ect...not just swapping 1 crank for another. just my $.02
If your changing the crank, you need new rod and main bearings.
there's 3 diff. size cranks for the 929 (diff size main journals and rod journals).
the end of the crank is marked and the case is marked.
when you get the shop manual cross reference the numbers and that will tell you which bearings to use.
After you get the bearing plasiguage everyone so you don't spend money twice.
No special tools needed. JUST DO NOT PRY THE CASES APART!!!

Thats is good advice. I also use a digi camera to take pictures of the teardown of the engine to make sure everything goes where it needs to be. It has saved me countless hours wondering where that lil part goes after the case is together.
